thermostat????

so i was driving my car and all of a sudden it started overheating. i pulled over and popped the hood and looked to see what the problem was. i noticed the collant reservior rather low, so i got some more and added it. then i started driving again and it quickly over heated again so i checked it out and noticed all the collant was all over the engine and i could hear it boiling in the reserviour. i thought it was a leak, but then i realized it would be dripping out when the car was off but it wasnt. it only leaks out when the car is hot enough to push it out the overflow on the reserviour. so i think the thermostat is stuck shut. does that sound right?

yeah, it might be a blockage in any of the coolant lines as well. or a rock or gunk has built up on the bottom of the radiator and clogged the radiator.

no it sounds like the impeller fell off the water pump if the car gets to over heat in less than 5 minutes this is the problem.
Dont keep driving the car till a new water pump is installed. AND or the timing belt has been checked as the WP can seize and then the belt will fail
