replacing brake pressure switch
Hi, I just purchased an 82 928. The brake pressure light is flashing from my research either the master cylinder or a simple switch could be bad I am going to do the switch first. my question is where isit and how is it done. also I was glad to see the posts about ground problems I am suffering some of those symptoms.
if anyone has locations of these grounds that would be very helpful. Thanks Tony Cipriani |
Tony,
I've never had to deal with the switches, so I went out and look on my car; there are 2 switches hanging from the bottom of the master cylinder (I assume 1 each front & rear circuits). I'd pull the plugs off these first and check for power to the switches, then use a test light across the terminals of each switch to see if one or both is stuck closed. If the brakes are working OK, I'd assume it's not a problem with the master. If you are having other ground related problem, the fault could possibly lie there too. Ground locations: Engine to frame rail, pass side Radiator cross-member, upper, one each side, normally a bit hidden. Steering column support, under dash Above/behind fuse panel (2 or 3 here) Behind rear interior trim, pass side (this one's a toughy) Main body/battery ground, behind tool kit (start here) 928 grounds are brown. |
Thanks I found 1 of the grounds disconnected under the steering console. The plug is hanging but I can't find where it goes. It can only reach so far but I can't find the male end it fits. Can you shed a little light on this for me. Your help so far is greatly appreciated.
