Help-How Do We Indentify an option code without....

...having the white label in the back under the carpet, nor the white dealer sticker on the Warranty/Service manual? There is a super clean 1982 928 5-speed/16" PD wheels in town 2 owners, but neither of the 2 ways that I know short of sending the VIN into Porsche/America. The diff appears to have clutch hubs, but I am not familiar enough to identify from outside alone, or even if you can? The trans is stamped: G28/05 11C 1095 but I don't think will help? Is there a decoder for the VIN with respect to option codes without going through Porsche America?

I know 944 a lot better, but I am a relative newbie with the Shark--car won't last a week at $9000 HELP!

Most early 928s seem to be missing the build sheet; I'm not sure that they were put in at the factory as religiously as the later models. Sending in to PCNA is the only way to get option info, no other places on the car other than those you menthoned as missing.

The G28/05 is the proper trans for that year, some models have a gear ratio tag bolted onto the rear cover but I don't hink that tag indicates whether it has a limited slip diff or not. THe only way to tell for sure is to jack both wheels off the ground and spin one by hand; if the opposite one spins in the same direction-LSD, of the other wheels spins in the opposite direction or not at all-no LSD.

$9K is a premium price for an '82 unless it's a Euro-spec "S" model; it should be super clean with full records and all major service done at that price.

A Shark owner in Finland, stated that if the trans ID number had a 12 instead of an 11 in the ID than that would indicate it has an LSD. Never heard that before, but it seems to make sense, insofar as they had the same outward case, once they "laying" around an assembly area at the factory, that would be the one way to tell them apart?! Particularly if the Post-It note fell off (I'm kidding). But to address the $9000, it looked as if it had never been driven, the engine compartment looked like old marketing materials from when new, leather seats were supple and uncracked, dash looked new, it was as mint as I have ever seen. Zero upgrades however...I think I will pass till I find a 928S with LSD. Thanks for the info.
