84 928S headlight wiring schematic

Low beams work fine. When I flip to the high beams the driving (fog) lights come on with the low beams. Would like to know which colored wires should I connect my high beam switch into for the highs to light? I would even consider adding a separate high beam switch but still need to know which wires feed the high beam bulb filaments. Thanks

raccaro,

I'm looking at the wiring schematic, and it doesn't indicate wire colors for the '84 MY; plus on the other years there's no indication which wire runs high/low.

Unless the wiring has been cut/spliced for some reason, the problem you describe is more likely to be a switch or a ground issue. I'd give the grounds a good cleaning first as they can be problematic on 928s: main battery cable at body attachment, engine to frame (P/S low), behind fuse panel, at steering column support, 2 at upper radiator cross brace (often hidden). Fuses for the highs are #24 - left and #25 - right. Relay for the lamps/motor # XIX-XX (large combo relay). I'm not sure about this one, but most relays can be opened and the contacts dressed up w/ sandpaper. Other than those, I'd look toward the beam/turn combo switch at the column; these will start to fail with age.

I don't know if that's any help, but I can dig further into the manuals if needed.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the fuses first . Since some of the wiring had been modified to fit some widebody components, removing the fuses may help me identify if and where the high beam wires are connected.
