junk in the trunk

I just bought a 1985 928S. The space saver spare is loose in the trunk, it doesn't seem to fit in the well. There is no jack or lug wrench, but there are two belts and a case with a compressor. The toolkit has a pair of pliers, an open end wrench and an eye bolt, the remaining spots in the kit are empty. I would like to get the car back to near original condition. Can anyone post a detailed photo of what a properly fit out trunk should look like?
Thanks!

Don't have any pics, but can give you a list for the tools. These come up on eBay from time to time in sets, partial sets and individuals.
I think the actual items differ slightly in some years, but here's what's in my '79:

Pliers, spark plug tool, cross bar for spark plug tool, tow eye, 5 double-ended wrenches 8mm-19mm (no 16mm), screwdriver, 2 other bits for screwdriver.

There should also be a small orange box behind the tool kit with spare bulbs in it.

Welcome to the club on the spare, you just have to kind of shove it down in the hole face down and the compressor goes in the middle of the spare. Lug wrench should be an easy find, I'm sure it's common to all models. The jack is an odd compact affair that stores in a felt bag; these too seem to float across eBay from time to time.

Thanks for the list. I looked at some of the restoration companies and could not believe the the cost of the replacement tools. If ebay doesn't work, I'm going to buy Craftsman.

You might try posting a "WTB" ad in the 928 classifieds of this BBS too; someone may have spares. If your car is a sunroof model, there should be a crank for manually opening it with the car too. I'm not sure if the crank would store with the tools or elsewhere.

Found the crank in the glove box, thanks for identifying it for me. There is a small plate with a hole that came with the spare, is there supposed to be a bolt to hold down the spare?

Not sure about the hold-down, thru several 928s I've never had one (or a compressor).

Just dropped the car at Powertech for a new timing belt etc. and they are going to try and find a match to the missing bolt. Now I just need to locate a jack. Got outbid on the last one on ebay. I'm going to try a swap meet near home on Saturday.
Thanks again for your responses.

Here is a somewhat clear shot of a toolkit.

Thanks, Scott ... between the parts list and the photo, I now know what to look for at the swap meets.

Not sure about your 928 but the older ones don't have or need a hold down bolt. The factory spare is slightly larger than the compartment and the battery compartment lid is below the spare. BTW does your spare cover have a warning that the space saver spare should only be used on the front wheels?

Dennis,
My car is not back from thr shop yet, had a ton of work done.
I checked my owners manual and the spare should only be used on the front. When I get the car back I'll see if there is a warning label.
Regards,
Greg

Think it is due to the collapsible spare not being able to take the torque of take offs. Had to use the spare on the 931 today. They aren't made or balanced well enough to go over 55 mph. My hands are still shaking.

Not sure if this helps, but I grabbed this pic off the internet recently, can't remember where. -Ed
