want to learn!
Being the new owner of an 87 Carerra, which my wife does not like to drive (lucky me!), and having caught the bug, I am now attempting to generate some interest and willingness from the LW to allow me to buy a 928 for her (and me!!)
Problem is, all of my time and energy has been spent learning about 911's, and I know nothing about 928's except I want one. Where, other than this forum, is the best place to go? What should I look for, what potential problem areas should I take note of, how much should I expect to spend, etc. etc. I do know the value of a PPI, and intend to have any potential acquisition thoroughly checked out. Your guidance is appreciated. Thanks! |

you will learn more about 928s there than anywhere else |
Thanks, Rixter! I'll check it out. I do look at Rennlist every once in a while for 911 stuff, didn't occur to me to look there for 928 as well. Duh!

Bruce:
I too have a 911, and while I'm not a master, have gotten pretty good working my way around it. I just took the plunge and got a 928. It is totally different, And Rixter is right-Rennlist is the place to go. They are nuts about 928's over there!! |
Hi Spiro.
I'm in your area and just got a 928. I've had a couple of 914's in the past and I'm just getting back into things... and learning about the V8 wonder myself. |
Bus, I'd love to talk to you about your car and the search process. Do you go to the local PCA meetings?

Search process was funny... I've always wanted a 928. When I was in high school I worked at a German car repair shop, and we had two brothers that were customers of ours, they each had 928s', one a white auto, and the other a black five speed. They drove them a lot for work and I would service the cars about every 6 weeks, including pick up and delivery. The hook was set. Then, put 20 plus years in there, two 914's, a bunch of american junk and some japanese mediocrity... racing motorcycles and other fun stuff. Then, saw this on ebay on Lookout, talked to the guy, the details were right, the car was right, the money was right... and I've got a little work to do to make it like I want. But, I'm as excited as I can be about the shark! :D |
Bruce-just purchased one myself. Get a copy of Excellence that has one of Bruce Andersons 928 reviews so you understand the model changes year over year. He recommends that you avoid the first couple of years. The one big decision is 5speed or auto. You also need to decide if you would purchase euro versions, that quick article will get you going. Take your time, there is some junk out there that looks "ok" but can be big bucks to fix up. I went with a car that has very good mechanicals and good but not great cosmetics as it will be a daily driver. Have fun.

Can also go here for a summary of the differences between years.
