auto. trans trouble

Can anyone help me diagnose the symptoms of my '84 ?
I bought it about 6 months ago and it was fine but did take a few seconds longer to shift when cold than I thought it should and did have a little shutter under acceleration. then about two months ago I noticed it seemed to be slipping and has gotten much worse in the last couple of weeks (I only drive it a few min. on the weekend) so bad that I cant go more than about 10 min. before it starts to slip. But it will always go if I put it in 1st. I thought it might be just old fluid and clogged filter so I changed them and put in some additive and it seemed to fix it but only for a couple of drives then it started again. So is it the obvious bad tranny or could it be a torque converter or something else and does the shutter sound like a bad torque tube or part of the trans. problem?
Thanks for any help , cj44

Worn clutches in the trans, or low fluid pressure AKA bad trans

isn't this a mercedes transmission ? the one that came in the 560 ? is it a direct replacement ??

Yes it is a MBZ trans but it's a little different, Just find a good used one.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread!!
But do u think it's easy to rebuild ?

EASY? That depends on you. Get a manual , do a search on google it will give you several places that sell them. $40-$50 is about the going price. Yes I can be done!!! Not rocket science, but not a walk in the park

O.K. , now how do I go about changing it out with the used one I just bought ? I have searched the forums (rennlist, pelic. and some others) and I can't find the first thing about changing them out and I can't find any manuals on 928s either. I'm sure I can figure out most of it , not the first trans. I changed , but any thing particular to 928s or even porsches I don't know. If someone could just point me to some posting anywhere I would appreciate it.

It is a big job. We are doing the job right now. We are using 928 shop manual. We removed the exhaust, starter and rear suspension. Two people are needed.

Ya that was one of the things I was wondering about , haveing to drop the rear suspension or if there was any trick to doing it with out doing that. I didn't see having to remove the starter, not that thats any big deal just didn't think I had to go any further forward than the end of the torque tube.I'v already taken off the entire exhaust and a couple of heat shields, disconected the shift linkage from the trans. and some sort of fluid connection on the side (banjo bolt). But I cant figure out how to turn the shaft inside the torque tube to loosen that clamp. I'v got the plug out and can see that hex bolt but its just off line from the hole. I'm probably not going to do anything els until I get a manual.
