a/c fan?
When does the a/c fan supposed to come on?when it gets to certain temp or when a/c compressor is on?
|
I guess i want to know if everybodies a/c condensor fan is supposed to come on when the a/c compressor is on?
|
I think it should come on when the compresser kicks on. I'd call 928 specialists and ask to talk to Wally or Dave, either of them will know for sure.

The A/C fan (auxiliary fan) kicks on when the A/C head pressure builds up to a certain temperature. (Of course, the A/C compressor will running/engaged and you should be getting cooled in the cockpit!)
As for a specific temp for this to happen, I suggest you consult the FWM's or give Dave Roberts or Wally Plumley a call. The fan shouldn't just come on when the compressor engages. The A/C system has its own sensor, located near the condenser/receiver dryer, and that sensor determines when the fan needs to cool the condenser. Hope that helps. It's generic A/C system stuff, but you hopefully you get the idea....... regards---rhjames |
Additionally, if you suspect your fan isn't working, just run a jumper wire from the fender (jump start) post to the hot side of the fan harness. Be sure to run a jumper from the ground side of the fan harness to ground as well. Your fan should spin up when powered. If not, replace your fan, as a bad fan will cause problems with the A/C charge not being cooled when the head temp gets up.
Hope this helps as well..... regards----rhjames |
Yeah thanks.I talked to wally this morning. There is actually two temp switches it reads off of.The high side on drier and the lower left corner of radiator.I did do jump test already and it works.I just wanted to make sure it was ok.You know how texas summers are!

Yes, here in Houston it's brutal.
I, unfortunately, am going to go through an entire A/C replacement, as I have a bad evaporator, a busted compressor, and in general, a decades old system. PO supposedly had the system ice cold (I don't know how), but it ain't cooling now!!!! Just part of the deal with these cars. regards---rhjames |
By the way, are you an LSR member? That would be Porsche Club of America, Lone Star Region.
They usually have a concours type get together once a month (and other activities). The last concours I went to, there were only 2 928s there, mine and a gorgeous low mileage S4. 2 Carrera GT's as well. Check it out..... regards---rhjames |
