RH is talking about the same 5.0L as I am, a 16v Euro hybrid, not a 32v later motor.
AFAIK the reasons people don't put a K on and 32v is the LH is good for about 10 more HP, and LH is what controls the flappy and the rest of the engine actuators. K won't pass smog either, companies sell cheesy O2 sensor feedback controllers to retrofit cars, and they are not performance oriented. |
You mean:
Taking a 4.5 or 4.7 and boring to 5.0 liters? or Taking a 5.0 liter block and making a 4.5/4.7 intake fit the 5.0 heads? or Taking a 5.0 liter block and making 4.5/4.7 heads fit it? |
T-Max----
the hybrid thing is kinda like this: 86-87 5.0L short block Euro S 300hp 16V heads, cams, intake, throttle body the pitons have to be notched and the block needs to have tabs fab'd for the fuel distributer and lower air box. no overboring, but I suppose you could go the stoker/overbore route while you're at it, if you had the bucks to do it. point is this, the short block needs to be replaced, so drop in a 5.0L instead of just trying to rebuild the broke 4.5L (4.5L doesn't take very well to overboring anyway) let me know what you find out about the motors you're thinking of (for sale)..... regards---rhjames |
Ok, I got ya!
Still a lot of work and money to make the 4.5 heads, intake and fuel system work. Like i said before, if it was my money, I would do the 5.0 complete and either use the factory electronics or a stand alone unit like a Motronic, or Mega Squrt. When you look at the wire diagrams there isn't as much to it as most people think. The ticket would be to find a 87- up wreck that you could buy, strip everything you need, than sell off the rest of the goodies. I called him today about the 4.5 and he is going to get all the numbers off the block! I called him at work and he sounded like he had his hands full! P.S. RH, do you realize your sig takes up almost three post worth of real estate? :) |
yeah, the sig is a little overbearing......
will modify it later, just got carried away with it. there is a 86 32V car in south Houston, but it's in pieces (literally) and there's no telling what condition the engine is in, so there is a donor there. another in Humble, but the guy wants an arm and leg for his stuff.... would prefer a 4.7 if your guy had one.... regards---rhjameshttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pc2.gif |
I here yea!

When I asked John Speake, about the smartest guy around in Jetronic stuff, how hard it is to put an LH brain in a pre 85 car, he said it wasn't practical. The only person I know who has done it told me 80 hours of rewiring the loom and connectors and was not willing to do it. S4 motors are cheap used, $2k to $3k isn't hard to find at all, whole wrecked cars in the same price range too, but unless your labor is free other options are cheaper.

sorry about the sig, thought it would be fun to duplicate what the rear motored posts were doing---telling their story about each ride they own and what they've done to each of them.
Not to mention that most everything I'm involved with is huge ---on a ridiculously massive scale. OH well.....sig modified. Now it only takes up 1 acre of posting real estate (ha, ha, ha......) regards---rhjameshttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pc2.gif |
