I am shocked to see he is selling it. I thought he would never part with it.

That one belongs in a museum where as many people as possible can see it. He isn't parting with it until the reserve is met, and that should make it a bit less painful. Anybody want to guess what it might go for, I am hoping it adds another digit.
I agree with the choice of a daily driver over a show car, its all about what makes you happy. Too many Porsche owners are afraid to drive the car as it was intended as it is.

I bet he spent months cleaning that car up for those pictures!
Anyone notice the absence of all the cosmoline on the undercarriage? That would be some major minus points if you where to ever take it to a real car show! ![]() Other than that, Chucky's car is top notch!

Most car shows these days do not adhere to any national standards for judging. Back when I was helping my uncle to show antique and classic cars that we restored, if your car was lacking a factory sticker on a air filter cover or if you didn’t have the right amount of paint over-spray somewhere, your car would have point subtracted for that item.
Not having the right amount of cozmoline in the right areas was just one of those items that many would get minus points. Most everyone thinks it’s better to clean it off as it make the undercarriage better looking. P.S. The primer gray paint on the rotors would also get you some minus points even though it looks better than having them unpainted. "Best of Show" out of ~80 Porsche's at the Auto Fair at Lowe's Motor Speedway is still a grand achievement!

I drooled over that car when it was on eBay about two years ago. I even bid on it, right after the auction started. I could have afforded what I bid, but I was sure I would be out-bid and this was the main reason I did it.
Chuck is a smart guy- he knew he could probably clean it up and flip it over for a decent profit. I wonder what he's going to get for it? Man! If I won the lottery tomorrow I would buy that thing 20 minutes later! |

I wonder how many people are ratcheting up their own search for a low mileage 78 still sitting in somebodies garage.

Personally, I don't feel that car is worth anything even near that stating price. I'm not going as far as to mention "shill bidding" here, because I personally know the seller and would hate to think of him sinking to that level. But $45K, come on, it's still a '78 stripped down 928! No leather dash, no leather center console, hell, practically no leather at all! And it's green......
Now on the other hand, I'd gladly find myself spending $15K-$20K less, adding just another 2000 miles to the odometer, and finding a car that's 13 years newer, such as this one for example: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_41_%7CD-_388_%7CN-N%7CR-10000%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CZ-46236&aff=national&paId=134469323&recnum=1&leadExists=true Now let's face it, there could definately be an argument as to which of these two colors are the ugliest (the latter is Coral Red Metalic, by the way), but put me in a 3900 mile 1991 over a 1700 mile '78 anyday! Now that's just me, as it's always open for discussion. Low Miler ![]()

Scroll down and take a good look at the original build sheet for the last, make that, second to last 928 ever built. Near the very bottom you'll see where it say's "deletion of cosmoline", so it is possible............. http://www.928registry.org/1995-928GTS-Pearlglanz.htm Le Junk

Wow! The drama is fun. This site needed something. LOL. But seriously Todd. Get a grip man. You remind me of the pigs in Animal Farm.
As for the 78. It is in pristine condition. I would say that it is at least as clean as it was when it was delivered. Maybe more so. Is it worth $45K or more. It might be worth more. If this car was pitched corectly at Barret Jackson it could very well go for that kind of $$$. Personaly I hope chuck gets more for it. That should be a thing that we could all be proud of.

Its not that some old Porsche is "worth" $45k or $145k, its that those amounts of money don't mean ***** to a large portion of the population. When there is nothing even close to it in condition etc. anywhere in the world available it doesn't matter what other cars sell for.
Todd, if you were looking to make a "light" comment about the value or meaning of bids less than the reserve, and or common practices on ebay and other auctions, it didn't work.

I was blasted constantly for high pricing these cars, doing no favors for Rennlisters etc., but Chuck Z goes out and buys the infamous '95 black/black leathered up, wooded up etc. GTS for $32K, that by the way, he e-mailed me first on asking for me to please back off of so that he could buy THE 928 he's always wanted, and then turns around and sells it two years later for $52K. Please! Now, I'll be the first to admit he's done alot for the 928 community, probably more than any single person, especially with regards to the Registry, but he ain't no saint either, folks! Chuck, so now you wanna go throw my rep on Rennlist around as though I was a bad guy? I got kicked off of Rennlist for posting, ALL BUT ONE, free finds on great deals that I passed up while coming across them looking for the 928's that I buy. I asked that a "finders fee would be appreciated" ONCE, not twice, and tdelarm goes and makes it my rule of thumb. Now that guys a freakin stalker, but that's a completely different story...................... Chuck, if you had my back, where in the hell were you when I was in the right and getting blasted by the usual 10-15 that make Rennlist such a negative environment? I constantly posted on unique 928's and great deals on 928's that I had absolutely no interest in..................FOR FREE, and you knew that! Where were you when I finally got kicked off of Rennlist with my courtesy "great deal on an '87 blue/blue 5 speed with low miles" thread? Well. I'll tell you where you were, you were quietly having my back, while I took potshots from the infamous, "Rennlist Knights of the Roundtable" and you did absolutely nothing.......ever. You knew I wasn't out to make money on those threads, unless otherwise noted, but never any backup from someone with actual respect on Rennlist, you Chuck Z. Hey, thanks buddy! God forbid I said something negative about the King. So Rennlisters, come on over, sign up for a 1-2 post membership, and then blast away as usual. At least I'll have Chuck Z quietly backing me up as always! Low Miler

Don't sweat it Todd. The only people that look bad to me are your haters and their foolishness. Heck just today I posted on RL that the low miler-danglerb hate fest over there is pretty much beating a dead horse, but I guess they pad their ego's with that crap. A big soap opera at this point.

Another guy posted about looking for a car and they got all worked up and started hurling the insults at the guy. It's gone beyond stupid. A strange little click over there to say the least.

Finally, and sooooo importantly, was the HUGE misinterpretation on Rennlist of me and what I do. That select few always tried to portrait me as a car dealer, and that was the biggest part of the problem right there. In reality, I have actually owned two different 928's for more than two years, but the rest were far less. And now for the clincher, and this is the honest to Gods truth, I only sell 3-4 928's a year! That's right, 3-4 total a year! And that chosen few who always refered to me as a used car dealer, were simply wrong, and made me out to be something that I was not. So much so, that they attempted to make me put up a sponsorship fee. Just because tdelarm turned the reality of my one time asked for "finders fee" into what I always do. Anyone can go back over my old threads to see I always put them up as a courtesy, and never for money, unless otherwise noted. In the end, it was simply just time for me to go. I was disliked by the chosen one's and my image was forever tainted by my easily being dragged into battle. Anyway, sorry for my comments, I guess I just assumed $45k was too much, and probably would have been better off just keeping those comments to myself. Low Miler

I think most people aren't good judges of how they appear to others, and the internet removes the normal visual cues that tell you to STFU.
ChristianR same guy that posted here a few days ago about a turbo car, started a thread on Renn list with a subject of Help me or something like that, and asked if anyone had some leads on a nice 928, and the brat pack immediately jumped on his back about being a "user" posting a wanted, and suggested that he was Danglerb or that he should talk to lomiler and get a lead for a small fee. Got both nasty and ugly, then less ugly, then Greg told him about a nice car and it wound down.
