I've got a (formerly) mistreated '79 euro 5sp that has been immobile for nearly 3 years now, after what turned out to be a disintegrated pilot bearing fooled this budding Porsche shadetree into rebuilding the torque tube. As many of you kow, this required removal of the exhaust, rear susp, clutch, and TT. I'd installed the clutch and then had dfficulty installing the lower cover and starter.....and once that was installed the motor wouldn't turn Obviously there's contact with the cover, as I can turn the engine by hand (not without some effort) by grabbing the flywheel or putting a wrench on the nut holding the HB.
I've gotten fairly proficient at the removal/installation now having done it a few times..... The only change that I can think of is that I replaced the bellhousing with a different tho visually identical one that I'd had my broken pivot ball welded to, not being able to buy the correct size anymore for a threaded replacement. Any chance the bottom cover would now fit closer due to fractional differences in size for the newer bellhousing? Is there a terribly wrong way to align the elements of a dual disc clutch that isn't apparent in the factory manuals? Sorry for the novella here, but I'm sure you all understand the need for detail because there are SO many ways we (I) can screw things up!

You may need to also show us some pictures.
Sounds like something must be binding, maybe start loosening stuff until it moves freely?

I have removed the clutch again a few days ago, hoping I'd see some difference in the whole assembly that didn't match the schematic in the manual......I haven't yet disassembled the pressure plate from the actuating arm and the throwout bearing but that's next.....kind of a "what the hell, nothing else seems to work" thing. I'll take some pics if I can soon if that'll help, tho it's not as fun as taking pics of my wife! (is that inappropriate?)
