I have a Magellan in mine but it is a dash/windshield mount. Theres really no installation to speak of. Andrew Olsen installed one that ties in to the cars speed sensors and will keep your position even if you lose sight of the satelites. You might want to PM him as I dodn't think he posts here. He posts at Rennlist everyday.

ORR (On Road Racing) guys running rally style segments have certain models they like, otherwise its just bling. ;)

Here are some good reviews.

I have a single DIN Blaupunklt RNS149 installed in the stock location. This exact model is NLA (new) but there are similar new ones. Blaupunkt does not seem to be pushing after-market in the US much though...

It works fine - its not really a moving map system - though it has a graphical display. It gives more of a topological representation of upcoming junctions and route directions and also includes good audio directions, display count down to next route change - listed driving instructions etc. I actually like it a lot... I use it on long trip only. It was great to get to & from the OCIC in Denver last year - 1000mile ~1 day trip home with no extra map consultation...

The install is quite easy - it does need a speed sensor and reverse indicator and the sat nav antenna - otherwise pretty straighforward.

To fit a dual DIN unit (some have fitted the VW OEM units) you need to cannibalize the console - if you move the AC head down and lose the clock (& move rear AC controls if you have them) - you can fit it in the top portion below the air vent.

Its a lot of work... but good size display.

I purchased a '94 GTS a few years back that the PO had already installed an Alpine in-dash NAV unit that looked just like a regular in-dash CD player, except the radio actually split down the middle horizontally, of which the top portion came out and opened up to show a TV screen. That served as the Nav/DVD screen. It looked awsome, and worked perfectly! I purchased the car in Tampa and drove it all the way back to Indianapolis, right to my own driveway, trouble free! Worth every penny, even if it was already included, but would I buy one on my own? You betcha! I can't remember the exact Alpine model it was, but I think the car is still listed in the "928's for sale" section on the 928Registry, as SOLD, but it still gives the stats on the exact unit it was etc. My suggestion would be to get one now. You'll absolutely love it!

Well son of a gun, here it is! And you can see what it looks like both opened and closed, too!

An owner in Oregon has recently installed a double-DIN sized unit in his GTS. He did some interesting conversions of the center console at the same time. He did a few write-ups on this on rennlist.
