78 928 loud sqreeching noise then motor quits Help

While on my 2nd test drive my 78' Porsche 928 quit running. As I went hard on the gas a loud Sqreeching noise(somthing very high spun occured and the motor quit. It turns over fine and everything looks normal. However I do Not think I hear the fuel pump making it's normal sound when I turn on the ignition key. I should not have got on it because there was only 2 or 3 gallons of gas in it, as that can stress out the fuel pump.

Has anyone herd this hign spun bearing sqreech sound before??

How can I fix this?

Kevin

When you get to the bottom of the tank sometimes debris in the tank can get sucked in. Start with the fuse, then the relay, then the pump itself. Two failures I have heard of beside just dead is that pump impeller comes loose, and something gets stuck in the pump. Sometimes reversing the leads to the pump and running it backwards will clear the junk. If its junk, I would flush the tank out.

On my car the loud screech happens when I get the bill.

Just confirmed I have a broken timing belt.

I have not checked on the price of a belt yet,
When I get it all apart I suspect a bad tensioner pully bearing?

The belt is nothing, like $35 from many sources, why it broke shouldn't be too bad either once you get it sorted out. Personally I would assume that anything the previous owner touched is suspect and should checked and/or replaced.

Pelican has it for $30 shipped free.

It's my oil pump. A tiny peice of a broken bolt had fallin into the oil pan. (I was not told about this when I bought the car). I was told it just had an oil change.

So I did my helicoil repair and put it all back together.

(I was also told that the timing belt was never moved), but as it turned out it was moved 90 degress off on the right side.

Even though I bought the car like this I think it is my fault.

1st I should have changed the oil no matter what.
2nd I should have checked the timing belt marks.

I was in a hurry.. Well now I am Not in a hurry.

Thank you for your help.

Now I gotta get that flywheel pulley off?? and buy some parts.

I just read your post. I had a simaler thing happen with the pump. I lucked out and just needed to replace the belt. Some times valves bend and your wallet will be the next thing to squeal!
