Rear wheel spacer question for my fellow 928 owners
I was wondering how large a spacer i can go with on the rear of my 1988 S4, before i have to change the studs? - also are spacers going to cause undo wear on the rear wheel bearings because of the increased distance from the original load center? - I have a set of 18" turbo rims with Hankook Ventus K104 225/40/ZR18 265/35/ZR18, the rim not the tire sidewall is the part that protrudes the most, I measured the gap between the wheel and the wheel lip, but would rather not change the studs if i don't have to - thanks to all that reply!!!!

I wouldn't go more than 3/16" max, 1/8" ideally. If 3/16", use steel nuts to gain some strength back.

1 inch spacers are available that are hubcentric and have studs mounted in them. The spacer is bolted to the hub with steel nuts, and the wheel bolts to the spacer studs. They work well.
I wouldn't worry about offset issues if you are running 265s. I would worry about clearance issues. If you have the clearance, the offset going to be in the ball park. |

in my opinion, I would not use anything larger than a 3/16 inch spacer. there are spacers that bolt up to the original studs, and then have exterior studs of their own to bolt the wheel to. I am not a fan of these, as I believe you should use a wheel to achieve the look/spacing that you are trying to get to, not a spacer. unfortunately, the largest wheels require a spacer to move the wheel away from the suspension.
if you want your tires to meet the fenders (as my 315/25/19's do--19x11 wheel) use the proper wheel to get that affect (although my wheel offsets require a 1/8" spacer---sorry, the wheel would hit the suspension if the spacer was not used) I am not aware of any bearing issues on 928's, and Porsche never recommended anything larger than a 16 inch wheel for the 928------so, there you go.....if you have fenderlip clearance issues, you can roll the lip using a wooden dowel.
