Anyone dealt with the "stuff" at the bottom of the doors?

My 944 has this also..some kind of anti-corrosion or anti-chiping substance put on the metal before it is painted? Runs along the bottom of the doors and continues front and back to the fender wells.

On my 928 it started to detach from the door bottom, I was wondering if anyone knows how to repair it or strip it off completely? Eventually i will be stripping this car (with chemical stripper) and repainting so I wonder if that will take it off? maybe heat?

I really don't like the look of it, but if repair is easier I would gladly do that...anyone else have this problem?

Thanks...it looks like someone started peeling it away, so i can't just glue it back in place..but i wonder if you could make an acceptable "patch" with Bondo or similar that would accept paint

when you tape off, put one piece of tape 1 or 2 millimeters above the textured area, then another piece of tape on top of that which goes right down *to* the rubberized part.

The goal of this is, of course, to have a teeny bit of overlap in the colour so there isn't a "seam" per se... then when that's hardened after a day or so, peel the tape off, and with a very fine wet sandpaper (1500 or 2000 grit) sand down the edge you made where the colour area met the tape..

you may want to put a third layer of tape on there that is a couple mm above the bottom layer. After you're done spraying the colour, peel off the second layer of tape, and spray on some clearcoat....

The textured paint can be bought almost anywhere that sells paint.. look for black rubberized rockerguard.
test on another surface before blowing it onto the side of your car - make sure it's the right texture you're looking for (should be, but just to be sure).

I just need to patch up a small area, but this is the material i was talking about
