2012 - 928GT Coupe

I'm not sure if this has been raised on the board yet or not, so here goes...

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/porsche/porsche-928-gt-coupe-ar33482.html

She look pretty nice, for $200,000.00

But I still love my injector seal leaky, ugly seats and carpet 928.

Caveat: Story and pix are purely speculative....

David

The 928 was a unique car, still is. I can't see how anything done now won't be derivative and just one of the pack of current high dollar cars. Its way out my budget anyway, I'd buy a plane before spending that much on a car.

Anything that brings attention to these cars will help increase pricing (although not parts) for the 928. When the Panamera (or what ever it's going to be called) comes out, all Porsche's will get a slight bump in value. Less for the 911 derivatives, more for the 944 and 928 versions.

Each new model from 78 to at least 92 hammered the prices of old models. New models put more of the old models on the market and prices drop. With more than 15 years since the last 928 the connection is a lot more tenuous. Its not like a typical customer for a new Porsche is also a customer for a 20 year old one that a dealer refuses to service. Very good chance dealers will be BASHING the old 928 if anybody even mentions one.

The stronger Porsche is in general financially, the more likely they will polish their image by keeping parts available.

It's about advertising. If Porsche advertises the new cars, a certain segment reflects on the Porsche's that were around when they were younger. This naturally drives more people to the market. Prices tend to drop over time, more so with other cars than older Porsche's. The 928 was a 50K car at one time, now able to be purchase in the 7 - 12K range (not including the GT's). I hypothesise that the prices will go up whenever Porsche does any serious advertising. It has nothing to do with how dealers might bash the old ones, that's not the target market they are selling to.

Talking about 928 prices is like talking about the weather.

Has me thinking about something, rather than hijack this thread I'll start a new one once I figure out what it is I'm thinking. Basically the future of the 928 and new blood.

That first picture is absolutely laughable! Strange that they even post something as amateurish as this!

We don't know what a potential Coupe based on the Panamera platform would look like, but you can rest assured it won't look like this!

As Nicole said.

-That picture is just some artist messing around with his computer, as are the drawings of the rear end of the real 928, perhaps as a "tease", to imply that the forthcoming Porsche GT will be a "retro" car that apes the first truly original Porsche.

Trust me- Porsche will never produce a "retro" car. Nor will they use one line or even the name "928" for their new GT. Porsche has way too much class to pull something as banal as that. They will produce the same kind of car

[why does it take them so long to realize that that a good GT will probably outsell any of their other cars?],

but it will be a completely original design.

N!
