Sun Roof Question - 928
My sun roof has recently stopped working properly. The motor runs but after it initially starts to open it hangs and will not open or close any further. I was told that you have to 1st pry the sun roof open in order to remove the interior fabric panel before it can be disassembled
The motor and drive coupler mounted under the small interior roof cover has been checked. Prying doesn't sound too good to me. What is the best way to get into the mechanical drive parts ? Thanks, Karen The garage has now removed the sun roof assembly with your help - but there are several of the plastic guide pieces broken that not even the dealer carries. Are these wrecking yard parts ? Thanks again, Karen Last edited by JK McDonald; 09-18-2007 at 05:28 AM.. Reason: Update - |

The sun roof in by 86.5 was doing the same thing. I found this write-up and began following at about "Before you put the sunroof back in the car...". I was able to get it disassembled and cleaned, and put back together in a couple hours. Mine has not hung since.

Remove the gearbox next to the motor and this will allow you to manually move the roof.
Take out the drive cables and check for breaks in the runners. Check the teeth of the gearbox and check the drive between the gearbox and motor. Lubricate and you should be good to go.

928 Sun Roof -
The repair on the sun roof is complete and now everything is back together. The main problem was found to be a couple of loose bolts in the right side of the rail assembly that had allowed everything to loosen up and bind. A square panel trying to slide back and twist sideways at the same time just doesn't work very well.
One estimate given for the repair was over $1,000 without even looking at the car. The shop that did the work charged $150 labor plus parts - $12.75 Thanks for your help, Karen |
