$5k 87 on Craigs, looks like a scam

Looks like a scam to me, 70k mile 87 S4 for $5k, says PCA owner, VIN is WP0JB092XHS860152 and it says location is MD.

I agree! IMO, anyone who goes through the effort to bring or keep a 928 to that level of condition isn't going to let it go for a paltry $5K. If it is too good to be true....it probably is.

I've seen AT cars go for $3,500. You never know what kind of financial binds people get into and they then need cash fast. It does happen.

I'm not saying great deals aren't out there, just that this doesn't smell like one. Sophisticated enough to know how to put a detailed listing in a Craigslist, but no contact information. If its as advertised I am pretty sure it would sell for at least $3k more on even a short ebay auction.

Just curious has anybody run a carfax or contacted the seller? or maybe know the CAR since it won a PCA concourse.

Got me curious.

Some info looks like this ebay listing that was pulled back in Aug 6th.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1987-Porsche-928-S4-5-0L-V8_W0QQitemZ120149209336QQihZ002QQcategoryZ6432QQc mdZViewItem

And it looks extremely like this one offered in NJ for $40k about Aug 9th. One of the pictures is exactly the same.

$40,000

so, now that you've talked this over, my question is:

did you contact the seller, and if so, what's the deal?

if not, why not.......?

enough of the speculation of what is or is not?

if it was a deal, maybe you should have forked over the 5g's and had it shipped?

sorry to be like this D, but you do this pretty regularly with no thought of purchasing (or trying to prove what point?).

You've been around to see how the prices are on 928's-----they are all over the charts on any given day.......

you want to hear a REAL scam?

I have a NIB set of 4.5 Euro pistons w/rings, tolerance group 1. Put them on eBay a while back starting bid $500, buy it now $750-----new from Porsche (or Mahle, for that matter) if you could get them, about $2K.

Got an e-mail from a guy in Sherman Oaks (suspected this was not going anywhere do to the California address). Claimed to be an agent for buyers "global". Wanted me to verify the parts were as advertized. Wanted my home address, home phone #, cell #, and said not to worrry about shipping because he would set up the pickup and delivery. Said he would send a money order when I supplied him with all of this info.

This D, was damn sure a scam. Probably some chump overseas taking the pistons and leaving me holding a bad MO and then running off with all of my personal info to do whatever with.......

Mmm.....can you spell "IDENTITY THEFT"?????

think about it-

This is an OLD con, and the reason it still works is that not enough people talk about it. So here I am, talkin about it.
