Where can I get a 1 amp blade fuse?
 

My 1988 928 S4 currently has a 3 amp blade fuse in place for the hatch release instead of the correct 1 amp blade fuse. Neither Autozone or Checker sell this fuse. Do any of you know where I might find one?

You wont find 1 amps locally. 928International and 928 Specialists should have them.

The 1A & 7.5A fuses for the later models are hard to find locally. You can order them online but most places have minimum order quantities of 50 or so in order to get a good price or they are $1-2 each as on Pelican (etc)

I'm considering putting together some fuse kits specific to '85+ 928's... not sure if how much interest in ~$20 fuse kits that have 5 each of all the values a 928 uses (quality brands only- not cheap Chinese types).

Normal Chinese (no brand) fuse kits on ebay have maybe 100 fuses but DON'T include 1A or 7.5A and Do INCLUDE 10A and 20A fuses you don't need for the car. They are usually only ~$10 but are also of questionable quality... (in specification accuracy, terminal plating material & mold material - I have tested some of these with quite poor results).

So a 928 specifc kit would be 5 each of 1, 5, 7.5, 15, 25, 30A fuses 'Littlefuse' branded (one of the top US manufacturers). I have hundreds of all of these so I'm considering getting rid of some....

Like to know interest in this?

Pelican has a small assortment for $6.25, may be free to ship, not clear. The smaller size ATC fuses seem to be used frequently in boats, so a boat place might also stock them.

Yes thats an example of the problem - assume these are quality fuses (I'm sure thats likely) - the issue is that of the 10 fuses - only 4 are the correct sizes you need (unelss the 7A are actually 7.5A) in which case its 5 of 10. The only 2 fuses sizes you get 2 of - are fuses a 928 doesn't even use...

$6.25 for 10 fuses isn't bad - $6.25 for 4 not so good...

Using a cheap Harbor Freight Chinese fuse, priceless.

One of the first things done on my car was to pull all the fuses and replace about half of them that didn't look so good with German made brass fuses (old style ceramics).

Don't forget to include some of the 1/2 amp door lock fuses in your kit.

Of the cars that use the ATC fuses only the '85's - '88's use those door lock fuses. I don't have any because my car doesn't use them - but they are quite easy to source in volume - not always easy to find locally though. Maybe that's a separate opportunity for spares.

I see the fuse kits for the <'85 'ceramic' fuses on eBay all the time... I assume they are mostly Chinese versions - they are very cheap & in the pictures the bodies look to be plastic (that would be a bad idea)...

Some of my old fuses were aluminum, and that can't be good with that exposed design.

Radio Shack was out of stock on the 0.5 AGC last time I checked the local store, but they claim its a normal stocked item. I still haven't gotten around to fixing my alarm wiring, but I have to keep my priorities straight, wash and detail for Sharktoberfest, worry about fuel leak and doors locking me inside later. ;)
