Speedometer Sensor
Where exactly is the speedometer sensor? The only reference I can find in the shop manual seems to indicate it is located on the transmission (manual). but the grainly picture doesn't really help.
My speedometer seems to read correctly (or maybe low) up to about 35mph and then it goes no higher than about 40 no matter what speed you are going. I've pulled the pod, found the infamous broken odometer gear, and am cleaning/repairing the contacts on the flexible circuit board..so while i'm waiting for the gear to show up i thought i would check out the other possibilities.... |
as the FMW says.....on the tranny.
you will find the wires (leading to it) come from the battery box. you will also need to check the connection at this location (battery box) as well. most trouble I hear is the infamous gear in speedo, then the circuit board, then move to the rear. have you done your "Walley Plumley" yearly electrical maintenance yet? Basically detach all electrical connection points, battery, fuse panel, starter, alternator, engine battery post, engine ground cable, etc.....and clean the mating surfaces and reattach. it's worth several volts on your voltage gauge if your reads low.... |
Thanks...I am in the process of working all the grounds and reading out all the sender units before i put the cluster back together...but as best I can tell there's no handy test of the speed sensor without an oscilloscope..and since it's not "dead"..I'll have to hope that cleaning of contacts and grounds takes care of it..someone here a work who used to own a 928 said they actually soldered wires to the flexible circuit contacts and brought them out to a new (better) connector..i might just do that, fix this once and for all..
