Installing spacers on my 928- any advice?
Hello all,
I've acquired some 21 mm spacers for my front wheels, and was wondering if anyone has any advice before I place them on the car? Thanks, John |
You got some front wheel drive rims or what ?

Hello Arclight53,
Presently, the offset is:· 65mm(front) and 52.3mm(rear) with 225/50 16(front) and 245/45 16(rear) tires. By rubbing, do you mean the wheel rubbing the body around the wheel well? As far as i can tell, there is enough clearance.. although now I'm wondering...? What kind of changes should i expect in the steering feel? Thanks for your help!! John |
21 mm's is a pretty big spacer.
Are you running 16 X 7 inch wheels both front and rear? If so, I would put them on the rear, not the front, if you can without rubbing the fenders. (Move the rears outward, not the fronts) if the fronts are still not outward enough for you, then acquire another set of spacers for the fronts...... all said, you could measure the wheel track front and rear, and compare the two. Your rear track should be wider than the rear (measured at the outside edge of the tire/wheel) My wheel tracks are: front--- 71 inches rear---72 inches these track widths are about as big as you can go without fender modifications on an early 928, as far as I know. I can give you my specific tire/wheel/spacer set up if need be. --Russ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1199603010.jpg |
Apologies up front for the lack of info in this (my) post, but:
I actually run the same width front & back, same tire sizes as well. Will check out tomorrow (it's 10pm now, and car's parked in the middle of town somewhere) exactly what they are and post. I find that if there are grooves in the road the car follows them terribly, and when a road slopes off to one direction, the car pulls that way quite heavily. Would reducing the size of the spacers on the front reduce this? |

Generally the 21 mm spacers would go on the back and not the front. Matt 87 S4 auto |
Russ, thanks (and to all) for the information. Both wheels are 16 X 7. No, I have not placed the spacers on the front yet, and with your great info, will place the 21 mm on the rear (today if it stops raining) and from my measurements should fit nicely without rubbing. Your photo shows what my end result should look like (great looking 928!) After these are on, I will bump out the front possibly 8 mm, as long as the they track inside the rear. Again, many thanks to all!!
