Does your car have a 928 612 871 02?

Last item on the PPI list of stuff to fix on my US 83 5 spd from 13 months ago, 928 612 871 02. Its a cover for the 14 pin connector that clips to the fender edge and diverts water pouring off the hood from going on the electrical stuff near the boost post which sticks out the hole. I bought one today and I think its the first one I have seen.

All of my 928s have had them although some were found down in the engine compartment after they had fallen off and I'm sure thought lost by a PO. The early cars like my 78 did not have the cover. Not sure what year they first appeared.......

There is a thread on RL and you gave me a trivia question thanks to this thread...... I did give you credit for the idea though

There is also a plastic non conductive nut that holds that on. It has a retaining strap connected to it, and it looks strangely like the top of a fireplug. 928.612.073.00

You need to have one, it's too easy to drop a wrench or something metal in there and screw up everything.

Get the cover and the the screw thingy.

Cheap insurance.

The originals were blue and if I'm not mistaken the blue is NLA instead, you the cap will be a brownish color.

Only on the older cars. I found that odd when taking apart some '78-84 cars.

Yup, had the jump post cap, but no cover.
92861286900 Protection cap

After I bought the cap I thought it was the cover, but it didn't make any sense how it would protect the 14 pin, but no other car I looked at had the real cover, so didn't know until today.

You ought to see what color the post cover turns after a few years in the sun. They look orangeish.

Neither of my cars have that part. I have never noticed it on other cars before. Now I feel so incomplete and wanting.

I know this is not a totally serious subject but I have only seen blue caps until I ordered a replacement and was told by Jeannie at 928 SP the blue was NLA. Ah, quite the mystery

Can you believe it! Damn POs! I hadn't noticed it was broken until I posted the pic..... As long as I've had the car, I have yet to touch anything under the hood, guess I better get on it b/f Parade this summer. The spots are glaze from buffing the fenders with the hood slightly open.
