Fuel additive

I was wondering what some of your thoughts might be on using a fuel additive to help keep the fuel delivery system clean? I only use Premium fuel of course, but was wondering if a fuel additive would improve the delivery or if 93 Octane was good enough alone?

If so, got any favorites?

Thanks...........1984 928S

a lot of owners tend to like Techron (sp?) and others like Marvelous Mystery Oil. Both groups suggest using it every so often.

personally, I used Techron once a month for a year and could not tell any difference. I decided to wait until I need an injector/fuel system cleaner and then use it, and save the $7 for a couple gallons of gas. but just my $.928...

If you don't run through a tank of gas more frequently than two or three weeks, then Stabil might be a good idea, Home Depot has it in quarts for less than $9. The more you drive maybe the less stuff you need, but I also from time to time use Techron, Stabil, Marvel Mystery (some in the gas, some in the oil), and Lubro Moly Ventil Sauber.

With all the current goofiness in oil, some people like zinc etc. oil additives.

My take is that if you only do stuff you are certain about need and effectiveness, you aren't doing enough. I want the maximum out of my car, and sometimes that means I waste some money.

I believe where you buy your gas from is far more important than adding additives and suggest visiting the following website:

http://www.toptiergas.com/

I once got some bad gas that had anti-freeze in it in my 1980 911SC, which slimed up the spring on the fuel pump, resulting in the car not wanting to start after the engine became warm. Gumout was what finally "deslimed" my fuel system and got the car running well again.

I put Stabil in my tank during the winter months or when my cars are driven infrequently so the gas doesn't become stale, which has worked very well for me.

I am curently running LubriMoly Valve Cleaner. I've used this stuff before, and it works magic when there is carbon build-up. Usually, I run three of them on consecutive tanks, then change the oil. Since that is coming, and to celebrate the end of my break-in period (100k miles), I also put some rislone in the motor oil.

Otherwise I think those fuel system additives are hogwash. Our fuel comes with plenty such additives already! I would consider it much more important to replace the fuel filter as required.

I use the lowest octane that doesn't ping, part of my change to the Euro S motor will be the joy of moving up from 86.5 octane to 91.

2+2 = 4 doesn't apply to the 928, neither does 3+3=4, I'm just saying sometimes when I'm not all that sure about either of the 2's I may try 2+2+1>=4 to make sure I am getting at least 4.

Maybe, but I doubt it, human nature is to value things related to the effort in acquiring them. Ritual and effort add to most experiences, chopping wood and building a fire vs turning on the gas log.
