Somebody should buy it. Take a fuse, relay, and fuel pump with you and fix it on the spot then drive away so you can check the rest. If it lasts a week then we must be in a recession.
I'm sure not ready for another car, spent the afternoon taking apart my Red 84 Euro some more today, and wanged my hand a couple times so typing is interesting. |

Key to the deal would be condition that could only be revealed with the motor running. That perfect shifting tranny etc.
Great way to dump a mechanically junk car could be to pull the fuel pump fuse and sell it non running, but seller has to assume that buyer might be saavy enough to check the easy stuff, so maybe its a very nice car very cheap. My guess is that its sold today. |

I've been attempting to call on the car all day.
"The mailbox for this subscriber has not been set up" or something to that effect. Not even able to leave a message. I wonder if they just posted the add early for April fools? ![]() I'm interested - but should know better.... ![]() |

As for the car in the OP, that would be a helluva start for a track car running or not. May be a no sun roof car. Last edited by Red Baron; 03-18-2008 at 06:25 PM.. |

$4500 for a 78 needs TLC and does not run, has me running the other way.
Plenty of places have street parking restrictions, I just paid $50 for forgetting to move my Mustang off the street between 7am and 11am on a Thursday morning (its whats getting me up at 6am tomorrow). |

Typical PO doesn't know enough to lie.
![]() Worse, most still believe what the previous PO told them. Those that do, may be a LOT harder to catch. If that PO had taken the time to also burn out the starter, you might have been screwed. Only way I see to deal with that sort of thing is make an offer assuming the worst, then be happy if it turns out better. |

He finally answered the phone!
"I got it fixed so I'm going to keep it - I got it running yesterday" Sure wish he would have answered the darn phone a few days ago! Sea Ya, Thanks for trying rogue..... you might sneak over and pull the relay - I didn't type that, did I? ![]() |

I can just imagine, ...
Yeah I was ready to sell, then I saw this thread on Pelican and checked the fuse and it started right up. You have to strike while the iron is hot on this kind of deal, and no testing the iron with your finger. ![]() Six months or so ago a guy north of Sacramento had a TB fail on a 85 5 spd, and when his mechanic told him the repair cost he said the first $1000 takes it, but changed his mind after about the 12th call wanting to buy it. |

Just my input: I did the same thing 1.5 years ago: found a "needed help" car & purchased for a track car. Once I got the car, I had to do the following:
-pull the engine & reseal the entire thing + new thermostat, o-ring, t-belt, belts, pulleys/idler/tensioner rebuild/WP, gasket set, headgaskets, F/R main seals, all bolts, gaskets, rebuild the injectors, new fuel lines, etc. Flush cooling system, gas tank. -realized front syspension was worn out: bearings, bushings, brakes, fluid, so purchased S4 front suspension & brakes & rebuilt & swapped on, including new slave, & clutch-master cylinder, new soft lines (both), an new hard line because a jack had slipped sometime in the past, then realized the clutch was junk: all of it. So, before we stripped the car & got it ready for primer, we spent a few hundred hours getting it up to "par". So, an inexpensive track car still requires major labor & time + cash; we spent about 7k total not including our hours to get a reliable, dependable track car (now for sale as the S4 suspension we bought came with an entire car: '81 non-sunroof car, now getting a roll cage. So, our 7k track car is ready to go & is a pretty good deal since the labor (of love) is being thrown in for free. ![]()
