Was slated to sell at auction on March 8th,
The first 928 GTS sold in the US to be auctioned in CA next month

http://www.kruse.com/results/detail.asp?CONSIGN=735&MAKE=Porsche&AUC_CODE=DELMAR08&AUC_BREAD=Del%20Mar%2C%20CA%202008&SEARCH_NAME=Porsche&YEAR=2008&RESULTS=1&PAGE=1
Final bid was $17k, doesn't say if it sold or not though.

Could be first sold in the US, its the lowest VIN showing in the carfax, so maybe, but I show 922 Euro's sold the year before, so it means what, nothing maybe. Checking the first 50 or 100 US VIN might show via registration date which car sold first.

This is definitely the U.S.'s GTS # 1 car. I have absolutely no doubts about that. The first article I read in our local newspaper about the return of the Porsche 928, scheduled for '93 after a one year hiates, was a photo spread of this very GTS. I remember it like it was yesterday. Pretty good considering I can't remember anything else!

Yes, granted the GTS was around for a year in ROW, but the significance of the very first U.S. GTS would have to hold some water in terms of future collectability. Let's put it this way, if you could have this very first U.S. GTS for $25K, or the black '93 GTS on Ebay running now for the 25th time for $20K, it's a no brainer if you ask me. Plus $25-$29K for a '93 GTS is still a fairly attractive price regardless, especially for such an extremely rare color too.

Just my .02.

Higher mileage 93 GTS's don't seem like good investments.

Preface this with I have no clue about what is or isn't collectible, but I don't think being the first GTS sold in the US has any value whatsoever. Its quirky trivia with some minor plus and minus factors, but the net seems to be nada, zero, nothing.

And neither do I. But what I'm trying to convey is that if any GTS has the potential to become a future collectible capable of fetching a higher price than most others of the same breed, then something will have to seperate it from the rest of the heard. The first and last cars of any particular collectible series usually fit that bill. And Horizon Blue is another characteristic that seperates it as well. In the long, long run, when and if the sun actually ever does shine on the 928 as a truly and well deserved sought after car, then mileage will quickly take a backseat as it does with most collectibles today. Muscle cars of high demand (Hemi's, 454 Chevelles etc.), rarely even mention the mileage, unless it's unusually low and extremely well documented. The buyers don't really care as long as the cars authentic and the numbers are matching. Sure, right now high mileage GTS's aren't worth crap, but I can't help but think that in the year 2050, GTS # 1, regardless of mileage, is going to be a million dollar car. That's of course just me, and just as you stated, I too have no clue about what is or isn't a future collectible. Only time will tell.....

Well, it turns out I decided I really wanted this car for myself afterall. I went back and forth with the owner for the last two days now and just tonight was prepared to make him an offer on it, and I'll be damn if he doesn't e-mail be back just before I called him to inform me it had just been sold. I missed the damn thing by 45 freakin' minutes! Does anyone know who bought it? And if so, for how much?

I ended up getting lot of interior pics that had yet to be seen, so I'll upload them here. Apparentely, it was a flawless GTS. Dammit, I can't believe somebody beat me to the punch on this one.

Oh well, here's the pics.....

And here's the car's option sticker. Notice the delivery date is 5/92. Hum?

Just my 0.0928 worth.

Actually, I never meant for their registration card to show up in the picture, just the top portion with the option code decal on it. I do agree that was in poor taste, but it was done purely accidentely. At least you caught it early enough before most people were up and saw it. But thank you for pointing it out and the appropriate correction has been made.

Wel, well, well, apparentely the tables have turned in my favor with regards to buying this first U.S. bound GTS! I just bought the damn thing! I couldn't believe I actually got the call this morning that the other supposed buyer had either backed out or was just dreaming the whole time. Either way, I'm extremely excited about this car as I truly feel it's the single most significant 928 I've ever owned, 5 speed GTS's even falling second to this one. Now obviously, the last '95 GTS produced in pearlglanz with full purple leather interior, easily taking the most desireable 928 award, but this first one produced has to hold some weight in terms of longterm collectability as well. I guess only time will tell.............

But I can't wait to get out there to pick her up! I'll post additional pics when the time comes.

Todd

Congrats Todd, so is this to be a keeper?

If I understand the situation hundreds of ROW GTS were produced and introduction to the US market was delayed so dealers could sell off the last of the S4 models that were still sitting in the showrooms.

As long as its special to you, that should be the only thing that matters.

Congrats Todd!!! Couldn't have gone to a more deserving person. I agree that there is something extra about having the 1st GTS sold here in the US, even if its more of marketability versus actual dollar value. Wife didn't care as much for the color & being on the west coast would make a personal look impossible. But I like it very much, think the color combo is sharp, especially the interior. I hope its all you want it to be.

Todd, this was the press car?

There should be a ton of pictures of it in magazines and such, are you busy collecting old articles etc.?
