Transmission gear lube question
hello all, as the weather finally clears here in Detroit Michigan, thoughts turn to driving my 1988S4, what i would like to do is change over to all synthetic motor oil and gear lube, and I look to my fellow 928 owners for help, please state your brand name preference and weight - thanks - happy motoring

Mobile 1 or Redline 75W90 are my choices.

AMS or Redline are my choices as they still contain the necessary zinc/ZPP additives required for proper lubrication. From what I've heard, Mobil 1 has reduce the quantity of these additives to a level that isn't acceptable for older cars.
Just my $.02 worth. |

I have a 5-speed and an auto. With the 5-speed I've been told that Redline trans/gear oil is best but you have to mix the fluid with an enhancer. That being to much work I just used Mobile 1 with no side effects.
I switched my motor oil from Mobile 1 to Redline and have noticed that the pressure stays higher at idle when hot. I also kept hearing about the reduced additive issue so I switched. I'll probably use Mobile 1 for the auto trans when I flush it. Engine: Redline 20W50 Differential: Mobile 1 75W90 5-speed w/limited slip: Mobile 1 75W90 Auto: Mobile 1
