928 turbosport kit #4 Installation photos.
I've finally arranged my time to install a kit on my car for public 928-er viewing next saturday. Base Stage One kit, with optional, higher flowing T67 compressor housing and dual Ball-bearing center cartridge, and loud-mouth muffler option.
So far, I have 6 fellow 928'er who plan to observe/watch: but if anyone else in the central Texas area wants to come see, you're more than welcome: just email me, I'll give you directions. I plan to update my site with both installation videos & pictures from this event to show the simplicity of the installation (more than anything else). My car will also be dyno'd on May 10, at the local Porsche Club dyno day in Austin, Texas. The Dyno day is $50 for 2 runs, or $65 for the 2 runs with Air-fuel monitoring, and $15 for each additional pass. I'm about 1/2 full so far, should be fun! Mark |
Mark, Looks like your making head way. Let's see what comes out of the Turbo's. Bet you can get some great tunning out of it.

Tuning: I have the SMT-6 installed & re-set for 30# injectors: took a while, as you really have to spend some good time re-tuning all the tables. So, in lieu of decreasing fuel pressure via an adjustable unit, I spent a lot MORE time with the SMT-6 (bad idea). My theory was that the extra 2psi in fuel pressure would result in a better atomozation pattern vs the lower: wrong: it's too close to call, nothing noticed via the wideband or MPG logging.
My dyno on May 10th. I'm running my standard kit, with the T67 dual ballbearing turbocharger with a .96 housing (testing lag with the largest housing). I'll do this dyno without the intercooler, & will run 3psi, 6psi, & 8psi to see what it puts down. :) |

Nice set-up, this will be an interesting comparison - 3-6-8 lbs with the .96 exhaust housing....I'm guessing the full boost target will move up the RPM curve a bit.....you lose a bit on the low end, gain it at the top of the curve....the T-67mm is a good choice up to the 8lb boost level. Do you have any comparisons with smaller exhaust sizing from the past?.....when we were setting up, we went from smallest to largest, but didn't check it all in one day on the dyno. We settled in on a mid-range 80's exhaust housing, for street/1/4 mile and track applications, but turbo sizing also plays as you go toward the higher boost levels.....P trim's or others, ball bearing (or not) also factor in, as you know, for spool up time.... How did the install go? We just dyno'd our Rear Mount Stage One Base Kit at 5.5 lbs boost and laid down 380 HP/ 406 Ft/Lbs Shark Tuned to a low 11's AFR.... This was a Stock 88 S-4 automatic with 30# injectors as the only upgrade and done on a Dyno Dynamic's machine which has an adjustment equivalent for 10% more compared to a Dyno-Jet (so, about 418 hp).....The car stock ran a typical 265 HP on the dyno-jet, so overall a decent HP gain for the boost level. I have the dyno sheets, but can't quite figure out how to make them small enough to post here.....yet, but I will a soon as I can. |
I use a dynojet 248e for all my 928 tuning: so not sure what i'll compare to your Dyno Dynamic, but I know what it does compared to a local stroker, my old turbo, my old SC 928's, etc, so we'll see this weekend.

My last 928 turbo never made it back to the dyno when I had the time, but put down 375/385 to the wheels at 3.5psi (had a bad BOV & wouldn't boost past that, took way too much time figuring that one out). Stock it was about 285/275 or so to the ground (same dyno). It would hit 5psi for 1/2 second, but before the torque & HP peaked, it was back down to 3.5psi: took a while to figure this out because I wasn't staring at the boost gauge in the car..oh well.
Here's a video of that exact dyno run (#1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEPq4ILMr4o I tried both the .68 turbine housing + the .81 housing on my P-trim T61 turbo on the first car: the .68 *may* have allowed a slightly faster spool up, but I really, really couldn't feel it. The .96 should decrease back-pressure for a more appropriate match to the 5.0. I don't anticipate any lag increases with the T67 since it is a dual ballbearing center cartridge vs the bushed on my first car. In a few weeks, I'll add the catalytic converter & air tube & go back for more dynos, both with & without the intercooler hooked up: that'll be an interesting comparison: using the Magneflow universal 3" cat with air tubes. Will be fully emissions compliant & still make over 400rwhp/tq on pump gas. |
