why hasn't this GTS sold?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370033689515

I know, I know, it's been run on Ebay, 15 going on 16 times now, but what's the real deal with this GTS anyway? I know Carfax shows "not actual mileage", but the selling dealership has always stated that from the beginning anyway. And after reviewing the Carfax report, I determined that if indeed an actual "rollback" had occured (more likely a clerical error, though), that the actual difference in mileage could only be 15,000 additional miles.

To be honest, the car really looks like it's in great shape too! I mean, it appears as good or better than the '94 GTS that Charlie Sheen owned for 2 months back in '94 before he wraped it around a tree, thus giving it a Carfax "accident indicator" remark. And that high mileage GTS with rust underneath the repainted passenger side mirror sold for some seriously mentally ill money (something in the high $30K range if I rememeber correctly). I guess previous celebrity status, regardless of how long or how bad, is fetching an additional $10-$15K nowdays?

Anyway, it's not looking very good for 928 resale values if a really nice looking black on black GTS can't even bring $15K as this one didn't the last time around (brought $14,200, in fact). If I didn't already have three 928's right now, and the extra money, of course, I'd be buying that thing for $15-$17K or whatever they're willing to finally give it away for, just as a daily driver if nothing else. Just my .02.

Talk amongst yourselves............

Todd

After a couple times through on ebay, people start thinking something is wrong, and I suspect it is. My guess is that when its looked over in person, with eyeballs 6 inches instead of 10 feet away it may lose much of its appeal, or have mechanical issues to be discovered.

I don't bid on reserve auctions, its a waste of time and ties up your funds, especially when you know the seller is stiff on the amount from earlier listings.

More than a few potential Porsche owners are incredibly fussy about exactly what they want and expect to pay.

A lot of us were talking about that at a tech session at my place this weekend and we can't figure it out either. One of us in the DFW area might just jump down there to do a visual check on it. The fact that it comes up with (in a flood zone area) on one of the reports has scared off serveral people, along with the "not actual mileage).

I was thinking that it might not be a bad buy, but I'd want to see it in person 1st.

Man, if your that close, I'd almost be willing to pay your gas money (provided you take an economical car down for the look see ), just for ****s and giggles if nothing else!

Another factor is that this one at best is a good average early GTS, and some excellent cars have sold for not that much more recently. Spending another $5k or $10k for really nice full history car seems like a no brainer.

It's just been rumored to me that the reserve this time around is $16K. If that's truly the case, it's gonna be gone this time around regardless......

IIRC this one was rumored to have been wrecked and they're denying it despite it being obvious when seen in person

If you can't afford a nice 928 you sure can't afford a cheap one.

My money is on this rumor right here. A trusted source, looking at it first hand. That should put any rumors of the why's, how comes, and I've heards to rest once and for all. I'm very interested in his final first hand report......

Todd, this car was put on a NO Reserve auction about 3-4 weeks ago and bidding ended at around $16000. The buyer turned the car down for some reason, so there must be some problem with the car. The reason I know this is because the high bidder ended up buying the midnight blue GTS in Panama City that we had spoken on the phone about a couple months back instead. He paid $19100.00 for the one here.

Hi Matt,

Indeed I do remember our conversation about that GTS in Panama City. Man, after our talk about the FL car, I would have to conclude the GTS in Houston has gotta be a huuuuge POS! I think that's all the confirmation I needed to hear.

Russ and Sean R,

If you guys haven't taken off yet to go look at this GTS in Houston, stop right now and save your gas money, my friends. I will guarantee it's a waste of both your time.

Thank you Matt for providing me with all the evidence I needed to answer any questions I ever had about this cars integrity. Run for the hills on this one!!!!

Todd

P.S. I think the '93 Amazon Green GTS with 101K that just ran on Ebay seems like a possible good buy though, if it could be had for $20K, which I think it probably could.

Two things unravel a lot of 928 deals, buyer can't get financing, and the buyer starts asking questions about 928's "after" purchase, prior to pick up, and drowns in the negative opinions.

I agree about the amazon green 93, maybe a good deal even with the mileage.

Rennlist guys talked about the black car in Houston and someone mentioned the car had electrical problems, battery would drain down very quickly. They called it a Parasitic drain. Also the car had compression issues on a couple cylinders. They said it sounded like the car may have had flood damage. Though that is not what the title states. But I believe the carfax puts the car in or around where Katrina made landfall, at that time. So one might assume that the car may have had water infiltration at least.

The battery drain is usually always the intake temp sensor with the two connector plugs on top. When defective, it'll keep the cooling fans running long after the car is turned off. Long enough to drain even the newest of batteries in no time......

But the possible flood damage, plus the fact the one possible buyer passed on it and bought the not nearly close to perfect FL car was all I needed to hear.

Yes, the amazon green GTS was a car I found for the current owner a couple of years ago. It's actually a very nice car, despite the miles, and with no shady stories either.......

Todd,

All I can say at this time is, I'm not saying a damn thing until this auction is over.

I think this is one of a few in that area on my 'to do' list --
I will be checking them out this week, for a friend who is pretty meticulous about purchasing a 'quality' shark . . .

What info are you looking for?

Lemme know!

Awsome! Well, I think alot of us would be interested in any signs of previous paint or bodywork. That comes to mind right away. Whether or not the engine is still the original 5.4 liter or perhaps blown up and changed out for a used S4 engine. Driveability, pull, braking, and whether or not everything is still functioning properly. After hearing all these rumors, I would have to assume it's gonna flunk several of these items. If not, then somebody's gonna get a really nice buy on a great looking GTS!
