Dad's OB took a turn for the worse----almost----

Update on Dad's ob resto was going to be good news this week as he was getting ready to start installing the brown leather interior.

But, as things can happen, it's going to be delayed-----

While at the drive thru bank, the car just all of the sudden quit running. He tried to restart it, thought it might just be a heat issue, had fuel, fuel pump runs, got compression (he thought), has spark (he thought).......Mmmmm.

Things were getting late, called a flat bed and towed it to his repair guy, only to find......... the TIMING BELT BROKE!!!!!!!!

Yeah, we had discussed this (TB issues) when we got the car (no history as to when or if the belt had been changed recently), so it was of no surprise to either of us. It was just a matter of time, but because it was a 4.5L, we felt no need to be in a hurry to do a TB change.

Good thing it's a 4.5L (non-interference) and he was just idling it while doing his banking. He doesn't drive it hard, never rev's it high....just putts around in it, so I figured if the belt ever does go, it won't be catastrophic. If it did dynamite itself, I've got enough parts to put another one together anyway......

Looks like the interior will have to wait a while......

Timing belt breaking is a symptom, something else must have gone south to break the belt is my guess, water pump or maybe the tensioner bushing?

Maybe a good time for a motor swap and upgrade?

no telling as to why, but the result is it's getting a new TB kit with h2o pump.

we had no history on the belt, but figured if it goes (at any time) he'd just put a new one in---with all of the assorted goodies.....

h2o pump showed signs of leaking too, so he'll be good to go after it's all done.

Interior is next.....
