89 Auto Baltic Blue/Linen with TBF for $4500
I know there was a post started on this car which I was very interested in. I had DC Auto (800-579-2410) in NC send me pictures. This sounds like a nice car for $4500. They have too many projects to work on it. It will be parted if not bought which would be a shame. If I didn't have so many projects and cars I would be all over it. It has a clean carfax but last recorded mileage was 27K in 95, don’t know true mileage. Clean title, car has not been damaged just a trust bearing failure. It is a great deal for someone looking for a project to replace the motor.
Paint is Baltic Blue/Dove Blue Metallic with a draped linen interior. No LSD, rear air, tools intact. Guy looked it over and said it was very nice, well kept car, paint looks original, didn’t see sign of overspray. The drivers seat is dirty some wear but no rips. Car is dirty. Dash is cracked but has a nice overlay mat, POD ok. They will throw in a spare. All parts are there. They also have a motor from a 91 with 100K miles on it for $3500. Car had front end damage. I’m bummed about not being able to get this car but it could be a nice car with a great color combination for someone. Good luck, Glenn ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

TBF is timing belt failure, or thrust bearing failure?
Either way this is no project car, its a straight engine swap with a good detail. That said, $4500 plus a motor and the cost of swapping and WYAIT, and its a $10k S4 AT with a used motor AFTER you spend a month or so doing or arranging stuff. Good deal for some I guess, more like all potential 928 purchases, first ignore the price and ask is this the car I want? |

Thrust bearing failure. I think it is a good deal if you can do most of the work yourself and the paint checks out ok. Depends on what you can get an engine for and how far one wanted to refresh it (head gaskets, bearings, intake, sensors, wire etc..). You can spend close to $4500 on a decent paint and nice interior. I happen to like the color combo.

It sounds really high to me considering you can get a nice S4 with Auto for about $7K. Figure you would be into this for at least that and you are taking a risk of not knowing what else is inop. This car looks rough, but I'm sure the photos don't do it justice either.
I passed up on an e-bay GT with a failed timing belt before I bought my S4. That car with the failed belt pulled down like $8K and the parts were thrown into boxes!!! I bought a complete running S4 5-Spd for $10K. My message is that fixer uppers are not always the deal they may seem to be on the surface.

Someone will need to WANT a 928 pretty much exactly like this one to save it, but its not an everyday color, and until somebody does a PPI all condition comments are speculation.
Maybe someone on the east coast will have easy access to a good motor? |
