dash circuit board pics
 

I have been having some wierd charging issues with my '79 928 and 928 international after going through replacing several , which needed to be replaced anyway due to age, thought that the dash circuit board could the culprit since my gauges were all reading the charge in the battery instead of what they were supposed to read and still had no charge.

So I bought the circuit board and pulled my dash to find a lot of corrosion on all of the brass connectors and hold down points. I removed the old circuit board, but made one critical error. I didn't take any pictures of the back of it prior to disassembling it. Stupid rookie mistake. I managed to get it all reassembled, but would like to check to make sure the straps and etc. were mounted back in the correct position. Does anyone have any pics of the back side of their dash that they can post or send me for reference? I would hate to ruin something else in the car.

Does anyone know what the reding should be across the resistor and if it can be removed from the car. From what I have read it is part of the charging circuit, but seems to be the culprit for a lot of charging problems. Thanks for your help.

putting the ribbon cables on wrong shouldn't harm anything...
when you put them on, the exposed brass contacts should mate to the inside contacts of each of the cables

The resistor is an update to prevent charging problems that used to occur when the charge warning bulb burnt out, leave it alone.

When you say dash, you mean POD and instrument cluster?

Maybe you could post some pictures of yours for everybody to look at?

The 3 plugs coming in off the harness can only be plugged into the instrument panel one way. There are some black guides that snap onto the panel at each plug location, one side is notched as is the corresponding plug from the harness. (you had to pop these guides off to remove the old circuit board).

You can't plug the harness in backwards.

I don't have any experience in a '79 pod - however see Dave Anderson's site where he refurbs his pod:

The resistor should be 68 ohms in most applications - not all early cars even had one (relying just on the bulb)

Thank you for all of your help. The information and pics help a lot. Hopefully this will fix my electrical issues. If it doesn't, I will be at a total loss.
