Dry lubricant sprays?
I've been looking at goop again, and it seems like some real progress has been made in dry lubricants. Sprays using some kind of carrier, often a solvent that cleans and penetrates before evaporating leaving the dry lubricant and not attracting dirt.
Used to be pretty much graphite, but Dupont came up with some kind of PTFE (teflon) product Slipspray that seems to now be used in a number of products. Here is a little product round up to see which products will work best for our cars. I'm still juiced on Wurth HHS 2000, but some areas might be better served with a dry lube instead of a grease, and vice versa. RZ-50 is cheap, about $5 a can at Home Depot. Doesn't specify whats in it, but says its not silicone. TFL-50 Dry Lubricant - USA ONLY This is a dry lubricant containing the original DuPont Slipspray formula, more than $10 a can. DuPont™ Performance™ “Multi-Use” is a water repelling, three dimensional lubricant utilizing advanced DuPont™ Teflon® fluoropolymer, organic molybdenum, and a polymerized wax structure. This unique combination goes on wet to deeply penetrate and loosen frozen or rusted parts. It then sets up with a clean, dry, self-cleaning™ film. This dry film will not attract and absorb dirt and grime. In fact, dirt activates release agents in the lubricant causing bits of the wax layer and the contaminants to flake off. This patented technology keeps parts clean, so they work better and last longer. about $5 a 4 oz bottle. Finish Line KryTech Wax Lubricant is wax lubrication technology at its best. The cleanest, driest, and most durable wax lubricant with no oily, greasy film to attract and absorb dirt and grime. Dupont's metal-bonding Krytox lubricating film in combination with specialized waxes make krytech super slick and longer lasting. Perfect fro dry, dusty conditions. Because parts stay clean, they will work better and last longer. What the bike guys like, about $4 2 oz. |
