Will an alternator made for an 85-86 fit an 84?

928Intl shows 78-84, 85-95, guessing no, or not without some work.

I'd look at putting on that Delco D130 several people have switched to.

Delco D130? How manyt AMPS? Does it take any special mods? Im asking because i need at least 140 AMPS. I have a BOSCH 140 AMP now that just started going bad...bought NEW..only about a year old too....and yes i used the cooling shroud and duct..and still this florida heat killed it. I just cant seem to get any alternator to last over a year!

The early Bosch alternator is something like 75 or 90 amps isn't it?

The 85+ I think is only 115 amps, where did the 140 come from?

More threads out there, but rennlist doesn't search from google too well lately.

Its a new alternator avaliable from Bosch. Only avaliable new, no rebuilts. Expensive too. best deal is about $380.00. I thought it would last for years, but its already going south. It can be found on a few discount auto parts web sites.

I just found the box....alternator is part#AL325N. Thanks for the thred links...I might just have a slipping belt. I will clean and tighten tonite.

I sell the new AL325N for $350 and so far they have proved very reliable.
As long as you use the 928 cooling shroud and hose you should have no issues.
Owners who need the extra power for large amp systems use it.

I went with the Delco D130, 105 amps, on my 79. If you use a 34" belt (slightly shorter than stock) you don't have to notch the belt tension adjuster arm for clearance.

The only real modifications required involve using a pigtail adapter to tie the harness in and shimming the alternator on the mounting bolt (a couple washers will do) for proper line up.
