Info on Relays

does anyone know of a place where you can get the specs on the different relays? someone in my PO chain removed the covers off some of the relays, and I am finding conflicting info on the replacements between the shop manual, Pelican, 928 international, and 928gt...and some only have the generic number, so not sure what the actual specs are or a cross reference

Workshop manual shows what the relays are internally, up to the transistor module stage anyway.

PO might have done something nasty like modify the wiring and or relays.

Any of the phone people at the big 3 should be able to supply you with what you need, but you could always run things past the forum one at a time.

well i actually found a Wehrle product sheet (in Finnish).once i figured out what language it was in I've been trying out the online language translators..think i have it mostly figured out..

Wehrle is a hard company to track down..it seems they have been purchased by Magna but there are no product sheets or line cards to be found

I'd go to www.928gt.com - to figure out what the part #'s & location assignments are for your year.

Check the wiring diagrams for your year to determine the terminal ID's on given relays - most relays will have terminal ID's (on can or on base) that will give you a clue as to what they do (and if the ones you have are compatible). The wiring diagrams show the configuration of the terminals and embedde diodes but nothing more. There is no guide to the internal or functonal operation of any of the electronic relays. Some can be replaced with a generic SPST with minor acceptable functional changes - most cannot realistically be substituted.

There are very few compatibities between different manufacturers beyond the basic Bosch SPST, SPDT and SPST(dual).

If you have specific oddball relay questions I may be able to answer them....

Hey Danglerb, side discussion..does 928 international have a sales counter? I'm heading to SoCal this week and thought i might take my shopping list and go see the place instead of the usual internet/phone order

Alan,
thanks...some PO had removed the covers from a few of the relays..since everything they were assigned seemed functional, i just left them alone until i had beaten the other gremlins out of the wiring..of course my wife is not impressed with the electrical panel out and these relays exposed

I had ordered some replacements but stupid me got distracted and just put them away, not realizing that the ones i got were the OEM and just had the OEM number on them.so i have to sort out which OEM relay is which Porsche number....when i went back online i realized there were conflicts with what part numbers were called out between the manual and the parts companies.. for example, one source called out 928 615 119 00 for the fuel injection while another calls out 928 615 116 00..so i'm wondering if anyone has what the different specs are.

One question i do have is the final two digits..are they just "upgrades" from past versions...so is 928 615 117 02 an "improved" version of 928 615 117 00?

928Intl has will call from the "boiler" room with Jim and Tom, Mark is often in the office adjacent, and most of the time a tour is possible of warehouse. I live about 15 minutes away from them, and its about another 5 min down the freeway to Precision Motorwerks, so I drop by frequently to brighten their dreary days.

If your a computer geek at all you might also want to hit Frys which is just a few blocks away.

PM me if you need more local details.

Ths final 2 digits indicate different versions - some are backwards compatible to previous version others are not - there is no reliable coding scheme.

If you have different 928... numbers they are probably different relays - check the model year differences on 928gt.com reference charts to see if they were the same function for a different year. You may just have the wrong ones...

If you have it in electronic format send it by email to erkka.vilhunen@iki.fi. I can translate it for you. Online translators do not really work for finnish language anywhere near as good as between any two more common languages.

thank you very much for the offer, but i was actually able to to figure out the important parts..some of it was phrasing as well, such as "normally open" or "normally closed"..

I have concluded Finnish is a very hard language to "casually" translate
