factory CD-2...how do you get the code?
 

I have a '93 GTS that came with the optional CD-2 in-dash CD player. I want to return the car to 100% stock, as the former owner opted for an upgraded and super sweeeet Pioneer Super Tuner. :rolleyes: Anyhoo, while he was making his outstanding decision on stereo selection, he naturally misplaced the original CD-2's code card. So I called our local Porsche dealer and asked if they could provide me with the code if I gave them the serial number. The service manager said I had to call PCNA in Reno to get it. He insisted that they can get it and even told me the sequence of prompts to push once I got PCNA's prompted message center. Well, I got right thru to the supposed correct department alright, but PCNA insisted that I needed to call my local Porsche dealers service department to get it. So I called back to the service department to get it and he said to call PCNA again and insist that they give me the code since they apparentely have it. Anyway, this has been alot of fun so far, but I don't see me getting the code I need thru either one of these routes. I've enjoyed talking with both of these places the last 10 times now, but I'm beginning to feel as though neither of them is going to get me the actual code. Is there a real way to obtain the radio code I seek without going around in circles with these idiots? Thanks. :confused:

Try the parts counter not the service department they are better at going threw the computer system.

You know what, your right. I remember about 6 or 7 years ago doing the same thing with the same exact type of CD player. The guy in parts made a call to some automated number, punched in the serial number and viola, the code. I remember asking him what the phone # was for future reference, and he jokingly responded, "If I gave it to you, I'd have to kill you". I'm off to parts tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me! :D

I'll have to wait to have it installed before I can actually try the code. I can't get the CD-2 out of my '91 GT to plug this one in to try it and I can't get the Pioneer Super Tuner out of the GTS this stereo came out of either. So it'll apparentely have to wait.

But one quick question. All of my previous CD-2's have had 5 digit codes with no numbers higher than 6. Are you sure 8309 is the correct code?

that is the # that came up... it wasn't pullable by vin so we're working off the serial# you posted... which is the LONG serial #, we were deleting unusable characters
if that doesn't work let me know and we'll go from there

Todd, how many buttons does the CD-2 have?

Well, there's 6 presets, but if you count the two additional function buttons to the left of the presets, you'd technically have 8. But I've had this particular CD-2 stereo in more than 20 former 928's, and they've never used anything other than the 6 presets to set the code. And it's always been a 5 digit code as well....

Rixter, I have a CR-1 for a 93 GTS that came out of a '95 993 with a 10 disc changer.

Porsche's CR-1's were made by Alpine.

The VIN for the 993 is V40821662B. The serial number is POCR 1R0821662.

Any possibility of finding that code?

Todd, since your unit only has 6 preset buttons your code can not have any digit higher than 6. The 8309 must be incorrect.

PCNA and Porsche dealers are vary wary of assisting stereo theives and therefore it's a little difficult to get the code from them. On some of the unit's they are the only game in town so it takes a little perserverence. I've heard of people paying up to $50 to a dealer to get a code.

Some dealer's will only do it if you bring the car and the stereo in so that they can verify nothing is stolen before they will cooperate in obtaining the code.

CD-2 Factory Stereo Code
 

I just bought a 1990 944 S2. It has an original Porsche CD-2 stereo, but I believe I need the code to make the stereo work. I removed the stereo to look for a code somewhere on the mounting bracket in the dash.....no luck. The stereo has a sticker on top that says "remanufacture unit". Is there any way for me to get the reset code? It would still be tied to the VIN, wouldn't it?

The CD-2's serial number is not written in print, it's imbossed into the metal on the back of the unit. You have to look really hard to see it, even holding it at an angle might help. I think the number you gave me is the number written on the small white tag, correct? You may or may not have luck getting the code from your local Porsche dealership by using their database. The conclusion they came to with my last CD-2 unit was to send it into Alpine Electronics to have them pull the code. They're the ones who made the CD-2. I hope this helps. Oh yeah, you may want to PM rixter. He has an uncanny ability to pull valuable Porsche insider stuff right out of a hat! :D

Your welcome and best of luck with getting the code. The Porsche CD-2 is the most sought after Porsche stereo there is. Take a look on Ebay at the crazy money these stereos bring. It's worth exhausting all efforts to obtain the code.

No luck getting a code for the CD-2 radio/disc player in my 1991 Porsche 911.

The serial number of the car is
WP0AA2964MS480252

The serial number of the radio, stamped in the back is
S/NO 0P0 CD – 2A11 15819

Below the serial number, also stamped in the back of the radio case is
B01115819C

On the side of the radio on a paper sticker is the number:

54A90727F02-A


I need the radio code to turn on the radio, please. Can you help?
