Porsche Crest does the engine fan closest to the engine come on and stay on all the time?

does the engine fan closest to the engine come on and stay on all the time when the car is running? thanks

yes, it is a hydraulic viscous fan drive, to be turning when the engine is running. if it isn't turning, your engine isn't cooling (and the fan drive is bad).

the fan on the front side of the radiator is the A/C fan, which kicks on when the HVAC head temp/pressure gets too high.

Ooops, that is if you have an early 928----S4 and later have electric fans that turn on when the temp sensors tell it to.

I see from your other post that you have an 1980, so yes, the hydraulic viscous fan drive should be turning while the engine is running.
