S4 rims on an '82

Does anyone know if S4 rims (16 x 7 front and 16 x 8 rear) will fit without modification on a 1982 model? Will I need spacersat all? Or is there a site somewhere that lists which rims will fit which cars? Thanks in advance, Ernie

Ernie, the guide that I used when I put cup rims on my 79 was:
http://www.928registry.org/928-wheels.htm

Just look on the rim by the valve stem. That number is the wheel offset in millimeters. The new wheels that I got were 55 mmm offsets front and rear which worked fine. You may need to add a spacer to the rear though to get the clearance needed for the brakes....

Ernie--

S4 (commonly called flats or flat disc) will work on all 928, no spacers needed---(although I don't know why one would put set on anything newer than and S4)---

using newer wheels on older cars is not a problem. you get into trouble when trying to use older wheels (15 inch phone dials, for example) on newer cars. the brake calipers on the later cars are of a larger diameter, requiring the use of larger diameter wheels.

if you are considering putting other Porsche wheels on your 928, I regularly suggest that you visit Wheel Dynamics' website. they have a wide selection of both OEM Porsche wheels and aftermarket, on various Porsche models, with a basic listing of what fits and what doesn't.

Andrew Olson over on Rennlist also has a wheel fitment guide.

good luck--

Thanks for all your input - got the rims on and they look awesome! No problems with fitting or clearances. Looks even better from behind even though the rims are only 1" wider. Thanks all! Ernie.
