AFM to U tube fit?
On my 83 L jet the barn door air flow meter is bolted firmly to the air filter box, and the air filter box bottom is bolted to a pair of rubber standoff things to the motor, all very solid feeling etc. With the intake "body" off I could clearly see the AFM to U tube connection, and it seemed to me it could have gone in another 1/4" or so.
Anybody know if this is a normal fit? The MAF on my 85 fully seats with a flat spot at the top of the "neck" for an O ring, but the AFM neck has no flat spot, so I am thinking maybe it isn't designed to fit flush with the U? The AFM neck also seems to have a taper. It did seem to seal fine, but I'm still wondering. |

my track car has this same thing: AFM could press down a good 1/4" or so if it weren't for the air-box holding it up.

I'm not familiar with the L-jet flappy box fit, but make sure that the O-ring on the bottom of the MAF and the O-ring in the U on your '85 are in good shape. I had all sorts of driveability issues on my own '85 until I replaced both of these.

The 85 got new rubber and plenty of silicone grease, plus it does fit all the way down with the oring around the neck compressed between the U and the flat spot on the MAF.

Not sure if I'm telling you anything you didn't already realize, but 84 US uses a big O-ring (dif.size than 85/86).
Doesn't really seat on any land-area, just kind of presses in. I had massive leakage originally, but no new O-ring, so I wrapped ducttape around the AFM as patch while waiting for the new O-ring. Did same as you, new O-ring + some silicone grease.
