928 sleeved block engine on ebay
***I have zero interest in buying*** Just curious about the process etc.
Looks like an engine rebuilder that ended up owning an S4, and now car and rebuilt sleeved block motor are on ebay. Anybody know more about them? D&S ENGINE SPECIALIST 875 NORTH ROCHESTER ROAD CLAWSON, MICHIGAN 48017 PHONE ( 248 ) 583-9240 www.dsengine.com |
They say they didn't instal the engine because it would be beter left to the Porsche pros...yet they knew enough to properly install iron sleeves?
Something not right. What engine shop couldn't figure out the install. Since they have the vehicle, I would assume the pulled the engine in the first place. Sounds like a typical mechanics lean that they don't want to put more time and effort into. They just hope to get enough to pay off the rebuild. Anything they get over the repair cost, has to go back to the original owner. So why take the time to instal it and just make him money? Interesting how they got 60 extra HP...Not seeing a head port job, degreeing in the cams and iron sleeves getting that much. |
Back in 2004 we dropped shipped a short block to them for a customer. My memory is a bit vague but I do remember a problem. Something like they "cleaned up the bores" with a hone. I later told the customer that you cannot do that so sleeving it may have been their solution to the problem.

I asked them if they had ever done a 928 motor before, and if this one had a warranty. The reply was that for $2k they would install and warranty the motor for one year. Maybe this is that 2004 motor, since I would think they would say if they had done any others.
