Is concours now spelled concourse?

From my experience, concours has always been spelled like I just did, but the new spelling that seems to be all the rage lately is now spelled with an "e" on the end.

Did I miss a class or something, or has the spelling been officially changed?

I site two examples currently running on Ebay. One is by a gentleman who claims to be a world renowned collector. You'd think he'd know the correct spelling for sure.

Here's his ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1995-928-GTS-39k-5-SPEED-LAST-ONE-BUILT-CONCOURSE_W0QQitemZ320294135406QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20 TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3202941354 06&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

And here's the other guys ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___PORSCHE-928-S-1986-1-2-18700-MILES-MINT-CONCOURSE-READY_W0QQitemZ230287894527QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20Truc ksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230287894527&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

Just curious?

Todd

I have a friend that shows his 914 all the time. He told me he has seen the word with an "e" on the end several times. I must have been hiding behind the door when they changed that rule. Maybe I thought they said they were going to pee, when they said they would be adding an "e"....

Both spellings are correct - however they are two different words with different meanings.

Sadly, Microsoft and other spellcheckers don't contain the kind that's referred to in "concours d'elegance", so over time it will inevitably become the same word with multiple meanings depending on context (a la "table" - a 4-legged piece of furniture, or a tabular representation of data, or a type of rock formation).

Over the next 40 years, we'll probably find language will condense to txt spk, and it'll become "cncrs"

That car seems to be taking a bashing for being re-powered and for paint work. Several 928'rs claim to have 1st hand knowledge of this one.

With the registry listing every GTS its silly for someone to think they can escape full disclosure of a cars known history.

OTOH just because a car has some faults in its past that are known isn't a good reason to devalue it too much, but once its in public, no denying it makes a big hit on price, right or wrong. Plenty of cars are as bad or worse, and its just never gotten into a public record.

That '95 is the same car that sat at Fred Baker Porsche in Cleveland for nearly 2 years. The front license plate obviously shows that. But yes, that car has a different GTS block and has had paintwork on the front end. I had a buyer very interested in that car, but passed on it for those very reasons. Don't get me wrong, it's still a totally awsome car, just not gate A-1 concourse car.

I just e-mailed the seller of the '86 to inform him of the mispelling before he received any bids. Hopefully he'll make the change....
