Died on the highway - then started again?

First time this has ever happened to me: ('84 928S Euro)

Stopped for fuel (same fuel as always), pulled out, drove another 3km's or so to the turn-off, lifted foot off the accelerator, then when trying to accelerate a little again... nothing....

Hazards on, edged to the hard-shoulder, all warning lights on. Switched off, re-started, drove on.

Carried on driving 50kms, no problems. Stopped, drove another 50kms, stopped, then back in car to drive another 100+km's, all still problem free.

What happened?

No engine stutter, misfire or anything, just 'shut down.
50 000km's ago last service. Maybe's it's time again?

I should be ashamed, I know. :(

Time to start carrying some spares with you. ;)

Fuel pump relay, fuses, fuel pump relay jumper, fuel pump, more relays ...

Do you recall hearing the fuel pump running?

Had the radio on at the time, so didn't hear that much, coasting as well, so can be sure exactly when the engine cut-out.

Started again - immediately - though, so...?

Maybe it's just a sign of wanting attention. I'll give it some TLC as soon as I get the window motors in.

Mine did that three times. Changed the fuel pump relay. Never happened again.

Just posed similar problem and my fuel pump relay was corroded. Cleaned it up and it runs smooth.

Aah... Stopped at a gas station the other day - wouldn't start. After a fiddle with the fuses (not the relays) it started again - a little corrosion on the fuse heads.

I see a pattern here. Thanks all.
