Nitpicking, seat pleats

Seems to me the most common bad spot on seats, other than driver side bolster, are the pleats between the cushions and the general shape of each pad. I'm thinking a good seat should have the top of each cushion fairly flat without any bulging at the edges and a nice sharp channel between each cushion. A lot of recovered seats don't seem to get this right, looking kind of over stuffed.

Leather shrinks on some seats and the sides of the cushion pull away from the sides of the seat.

The other nasty one is that the channel between the cushions gets pulled up. What causes that, some support band or something breaking?

*** Another month or so and I plan to take some seats apart and learn how to reskin them, so this is warming up to it.

Not sure if Paul C. will comment or not. His craftsmanship with the 928 and specifically on the 928 seats show exactly what you are looking for.

These look a bit "puffy" to me, but maybe its just the type of leather?

in regards to seats, has anyone ever seen a pair of the seats in this ebay car? They look like Recaros of some sort but I haven't seen a set quite like them. I love the look of them! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___Porsche-928_W0QQitemZ160278216340QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20Trucks QQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160278216340&_trkparms=72%3A727|39%3A1|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

Those I am pretty sure didn't come with a 79. I think they may be the adjustable ergonomic seats that were an option I think in the late 80's. One of the TX cars that sold last year had them I think in black.

Gives me an idea though, we need a dedicated seat pict thread.

For seats there is one man: Paul Champagne. Here's a link to his site- he'll set you up:

http://www.rennlist.com/spnsrs/paulchampagnedesigns.html

[I don't agree with the management of rennlist, but I want you to find a solution to your problem so I use a link from their site]

god, those 'ergonomic' seats look like heaven to me, I can't tell what that control panel is by the right thigh, I would have guessed them completely manual at first glance (generally a plus) but there appears to be more than meats the eye here. funny that they are asking more than 8 grand for that car and providing such meager pictures...

I love Paul's work, but its like a potato chip, you can't eat just one. Paul's seats are so nice you end up doing your whole interior, and that gets pricey.

Paul dropped a hint last week that he has something in the works to make us happier and poorer soon, maybe seat kits or?

Rennlist is now owned by some media company, not sure I would call it management, but somebody is on the other end of the ban button.

That site is now owned by "Internet Brands", though they kept the inept management team in place.

Anyway, I post this here: I spent about $3100 redoing my '85's interior in 1999/2000. My car was originally owned by a gay man who was a jeweler in Ocala, Florida. He's the one who actually bought the car from a dealer in Vienna, Austria. He shipped the car to Miami, had it Federalized in Pompano Beach, and then committed suicide in it 8 years later. The maid found him the next day, dead, the car still running in the closed garage.

No, the car does not stink....

After a year spent in probate court, the guy's mechanic bought it at a fire-sale price and drove it for four years. Then he sold it to the idiot PO who sold it to me. Somewhere along the line, the original leather front seats were replaced with VINYL. Don't ever own a car with VINYL seats! I swear to god I almost needed skin grafts after exiting my car some days with those nasty things! They look great but they are horrid; the PO had sheep-skin seat covers to keep his skin intact. Me- I actually liked the car: I decided to redo the whole interior.

I started with new carpet. I looked at the color of the interior, and when I ordered a carpet kit, I told them that it was champagne, kind of a sand color. Turns out I ordered the wrong thing; the interior from the factory was gray-beige. I liked the brighter champagne, and decided to install it instead. Since I was changing things, I decided to make the seats and floor mats black.

N!

I would post some pictures, but for some reason the site says that I cannot?

Ok thanx!

If I had to do it over...though the champagne/black looks good together [especially with the black pod and speaker grills]....I'd do the whole thing in black. That champagne carpet is MURDER to keep clean!

I'm not sure if this is from sun, or just drying out, but notice how the cushions have pulled away from the sides leaving a gap.
