Ebay car - need opinions
Well it's come to that point in my life where a 2-seater just isn't practical. So I'm thinking of selling my recently completed 914-6 and picking up another Pcar with 4-seats. Either a 928 or another 911. I had a 951 which I liked but I'd rather go back to another 911 or try a 928 as I've always loved the looks & style of the 928 cars. I found this one on ebay & would appreciate your opinions.
- 18 yr old car with 32K miles. I assume belts, etc would need to be done now if they haven't been done recently - Is this a Euro car? If so, what is need to make it legal in the US - A PPI is definitely in order ebay:

One of my former customers who purchased two concours condition 928's from me lives in that area and had gone over to have a little looksee at all their cars. He said he wasn't impressed with any of their 928's. He said one was of them was borderline acceptable, but I can't tell you if it was this particular one or not. Also, where is the VIN #, anyway? They left it out of both the VIN # section and in the text section, as well. Without question I'd have a PPI performed on this 928 before ever going forward with these guys. Best of luck though. If the car is legit, replacing just a few tacky aftermarket gadgets with the original stuff would go a long way.

I'm not too far from Toronto, so I was planning on seeing it in person. I don't have any plans on bidding on it through ebay.

I would strongly suggest the way to try a 928 is to visit one of the regional events, not to buy one. The 928 is the polar opposite of a 914, good pun, but true as well. It has a unique blend of high speed touring car, muscle car, and luxury car.
With this specific car and seller it disturbs me that the VIN is not listed and I do not believe that ebay won't display it. Japanese market cars are required to be imported and federalized, and they apparently slip around that, and I wonder if it doesn't leave the buyer potentially in REAL trouble at some point later on. Low mileage car can easily have $5k to $10k in deferred maintenance just like any other 928, they just have nicer seats. |

Three issues--
no front fender (side) turn signals that I can see- not Federalized yet- no VIN- don't think for a minute this will be easy....... --Russ

4-seater...unless you have very small kids i wouldn't consider the 928 a "4-seater"..no normal-sized human that you wanted to maintain good relations with will fit back there...

- Kids are little & flexible. I'm assuming the backseat in a 928 is at least as big as a 944 & a little bigger than a 911. Either way it is a hell of alot more room than a 914 or my cobra.
- They said they could deliver the car to Niagara Falls (US side), but wouldn't send me the VIN number. How's that for fishy?

EPA and DOT are not known as forgiving or forgetting. My concern is regardless of their ability to sneak a Japanese market car into the US, register in Alabama or something, down the line it could catch up to you and be very costly.
I wonder if getting a ticket in the wrong state could be enough to trigger it too. BTW Canadians are free to buy these cars with no issues, so if its a good deal why hasn't some Canadian person snapped it up? |

I put my 3 year old in the back seat of mine in a car seat. She is getting big, so a little cramped on her feet because the seat throws her forward in the seat. My wife sat back there a few times...she said it wasn't bad, but wouldn't do more than an hour there.
My car is for sale on ebay, but should be considered a bit of a project. PM me if you want the details. Mat

Thanks, but I'm not sure if I'm up for another project. (2) 911's, (1) 951, (1) 914-6 coversion & now trying to finish up a cobra. I think I've had my fill of projects for a while. Although I say that at the end of everyone. Next thing I know I have another one on the trailer & my wife is rolling her eyes....

Your wife and my wife must be sisters...
The first 911T came to the house in pieces...that was fun! She was pretty impressed when I put it back together though...but then again, so was I! Here is the item number if you care to look. It's a driving project. Item number: 260293313867 Mat

How tall are you? How old are your kids. If you are tall and your kids are over 10 years old, the 928 back seats will not work. They will have no leg room.

Is there more or less room in the back in a 928 vs. a 911. I was able to fit a car seat in the 911 without too much trouble.

I believe the trick with the 928 is getting one of the few seats that fit well, but a search should turn up some threads.
