1981 928

I am looking at a 1981 928. I was wondering what everyone thought about this model year, ie...good and bad, pros and cons. It looks as if this car is well documented with around 50K original miles. The car is located in Nashville, Tenn. Would there be anyone in the area that could take a look at the car. Also, any good 928 shops for a PPI. thanks for your help, Tom

Guessing you mean this one on ebay.

Bid was up to $6k last time it was listed on ebay, failed to make the $8450 reserve price. I would start with BOTH a carfax and autocheck since each shows so few records.

Seems like a good example of an early 928, is that what you want?

Its a dealer car which is rarely good. Dealer detailing hides flaws, steam cleaning etc causes electrical issues later on.

Some repair history, but despite the amount spent it was just a basic repair on one small area of the car.

Full leather which is both rare and nice, but it DEMANDS care.

Seats seem a bit worn for the indicated mileage, dash and pod are covered and may be damaged.

Needs a through local PPI.

Asking top price in a terrible down market full of bargain cars, best you really WANT those low miles as you will be paying for them.

Danglerb-Thanks for the reply! I have been looking for an early 928 with low miles. There was a light blue metallic 1979 with low miles but the seller wanted $9500.

I emailed this seller to see exactly what records he has on this 928. I need to look up the sites you mentioned to see what they have to say about the car.

I also asked about the "covered" leather dash. Again, thanks for the help and guidance!!

A really nice low mileage early car is rare enough that I don't think you can fix any kind of accurate value, its 100% about want and who else wants. Sounds like you have Roger looking at it, and he certainly knows the 928.

Been awhile since this one was offered for sale, not quite as low of mileage, but a Euro S has 300 hp compared to a US 81 at 220 hp, and its already in TX.
1980 euro 4.7 m28/11 for sale
