Is this engine stand adaptor for the 928 really worth what these guys are bidding so far?

My universal engine stand from Harbor Freight fits the 928 engine just fine and was under $50. I guess if you have a Porsche repair shop it's nice to have the "perfect" fit.

People with 928's often do stuff that doesn't make sense.

I've seen them in shops not being used while the HF style are, so go figure.

Yikes, thats going for a lot of $$. I also used a universal stand and it worked perfect. I guess if your going to put your spare engine with spotlights toward it, then it would be cool :D

I have been bidding on this but it is getting rather high. I had the luck of using one of these yokes on my good engine stand and it was far more comfortable to work pieces than when the block was mounted using the "standard" adjustable mount.

The factory yoke mates to the bell housing flanges spreading the load. This is really nice when torquing / untorquing heads, timing cams, etc.

Hopefully the bidding on this yoke will not get too crazy. The person that owns the one I borrowed paid less than $200 for the yoke, a lift bar and under engine to stand brace.

Makes sense. I made a front support out of 2.5" exhaust pipe clamped to the front of the engine stand. Small block of wood between the oil pan and pipe.

First time I tried to torque a head bolt down told me with out the front support I'd be in trouble.

Still surprised by the price.

Sorry if I offended you. I didn't think this yoke made that much of a difference.

Just about to transfer my 32v engine from the hoist to a standard engine stand, without the Porsche yoke. This is one heavy beast and I'm really nervous about all that weight hanging on just the bell-housing flanges.

I know that you're supposed to support the engine from underneath while torquing bolts etc. but even having the engine sitting still on the stand for cleaning / disassembly etc. makes me nervous.

My standard stand adjusted fine to fit my motor. A simple 2 x 4 between the stand and front of the motor on the pan stabilized it and took care of any load issues

Here you go, now you can worry about something else.

Just don't use the stand with the T base, only the H or A. I don't recall seeing anybody prop up the front before torquing the heads, but could be I wasn't paying enough attention.
