what to do for winter storage on your porsche?
 

what do you need to do for winter storage on your porsche? Its that time of the year and its time to put her to bed for the winter what type of things would you recommend to do for winter storage so she starts right up in the spring? I do nothing at all... we don't get much bad precipitation so I drive mine year round

I live in the woods in Connecticut, so I get all kinds of critters looking for a home the the winter. Not many ants, though...

I usually fill up the tank with fresh gas and Stabil, put steel wool in the exhaust pipe openings to keep the mice out, put steel wool in the intake openings under the hood, buy Bounce sheets and throw a bunch inside the car and then I get boxes of mothballs at the dollar store, poke holes in the box and place it under the hood.

I also put out lots of mouse poison blocks around the garage to try to keep them at bay. I've even had to put them in the drawers of my workbench because the mice build nests everywhere they can.

you didn't say what model year yours is......

you should (at the very least) put Stabil in the fuel system (per instructions) and I recommend a full quart of Lucas fuel injector additive, put the car on jackstands (so the tires don't get flatspotted), and disconnect the battery. Do not put a cover on the car---especially if it's going to be in a heated garage. make sure the windows are rolled up with no gaps.

just remember that K-jet doesn't like to sit for long time periods.

as to the critter question----park it in a garage (concrete floor). disconnecting the battery will prevent an ant problem in the electrics. make sure the interior is very clean....with no food residue or anything that remotely looks like food. Again, jackstands are a detractor to critter access (tires off, or at least off the ground). check regularly for rodent nests and such......


personally, I would start and run the car once per month, just to keep things working properly. This will make starting up in the spring less of a problem.....

in addition, I use a leather treatment on all interior leather to keep it fresh and from drying out. Meguires works fine for this.

In January, I like to put on a bathing suit, back the car onto the driveway....and wash it up. I usually do it in the morning, since the driveway is shaded then and I won't need any sunblock...
