E Porsche in 2009
Saw this on another site, cut and pasted here.
E-Porsche comes in 2009, paper says By Christoph Hammerschmidt Automotive Design Europe (10/13/2008 11:49 AM EDT) MUNICH, Germany — Electric drives have a property that makes them interesting for sports car manufacturers: They offer an incredible torque even at low speeds. Now Porsche apparently is planning to join the electric bandwagon. The Stuttgart, Germany, based car manufacturer plans to offer an electric version of its famous model 911, writes weekly magazine Wirtschaftswoche. According to the publication, the engine will be provided by Alois Ruf, a small specialty sports car manufacturer. The e-Porsche will be equipped with a 204 kW brushless three-phase motor which will catapult the car to a speed of 100km/h in less than 7 seconds. The motor will offer a torque of 650Nm; the lithium ion batteries from British manufacturer Axeon provide for a driving range of up to 320 km, depending greatly on the driving style. At a moderate speed of 125 km/h, the batteries have to deliver 21 kilowatts of electric power. For the first time, details as to the battery lifetime in such an application have been provided. The 550kg heavy energy source can be recharged up to 3000 times. The self-discharge is specified at less than 3 percent every month. |

Gattaca,
The car you posted is owned by a local to me, His name is Al. The car no longer looks like this though, he had the electric motor mated right to the manual tranny and could not change gears. I pulled that all out, converted it to an auto, and we changed the batteries around a fair bit. He got a good bit more distance per charge, but is still having to balance the batteries and cant really drive far with the car. The car before that one he did was a 914, which is owned by a fellow in calgary, he was able to get alot more mileage per charge out of that car and said it was a far better base car. |
