Wheel repair-

Well, after dinging on of my 997 wheels pretty hard , I've been searching for a less expensive way to either repair it or replace it.

Many of you will know Wheels America.

They have the ability to repair just about any damage to an aluminum wheel, restoring it to new condition, so I'm giving them a shot.

I delivered the bad wheel this morning, and it will be ready tomorrow AM.

Cost difference>>>>about $200 less for repair---when you figure in the cost of the exchange wheel and freight charges (to the west coast and back) for an exchange.

Will let you know as to how it turns out......

By the way, they also w i d e n wheels as well>>>>>>now that really has me thinking.......

I've seen some refinished wheels that look great, but I do worry about strength of a fixed wheel. If I don't find a good used wheel soon I may have to have one of my wife's Continental wheels fixed. All it needs is a hydraulic nudge, but seems like the price is the same big or small.

Too bad they can't turn 16 x 7 Phone dials into 17 x 8. Now that would be a good trick that I'd gladly pay for.

I had a really bad experience with WA the past 2 weeks. Won't go in to details but I know we will never use them again.

when you say "ding", do you mean something like curb rash or a dent that knocked it out of round?

If it's just curb rash, I found this write-up some time back. It's DIY and relatively inexpensive.

Hope this helps.

.
not quiet curb rash---more severe, like gouges in the face of the wheel.

Got the wheel back today (next day service) and the results are impressive. No damage evident, nice paint and clearcoat on the wheel, lifetime warranty.
