78 under tank fpump wires going nowhere

1978 928 (euro) fuel pump under tank (single pump) wire connectors with rubber boots connected , followed through car and a set of those same wire/connectors with the rubber boots are tuck up into the pass fender back side--- fuel filter is at the front of this fender all fine. the wires look like they were never attached , and no signs of a fender fuel pump or install

installing new filter, pump and relay - want to be sure new parts to put in will be ok and not blow anything. drained lines, tank of old gas and hoping for a fuel pump buzzzzzzzzzzzz. Not much info on car when puchased and not taking any chances. thanks.

As nobody more knowledgeable is replying:

Sounds weird, like someone tried to use only one pump instead of two, maybe by replacing the original "low flow" pump under the tank with a "high flow" pump (assuming you have fuel pressure), and by losing the second "high flow" pump altogether, hence the dangling wires under in the right real wheel well, which would ordinarily connect to the second pump?

I am not aware of any early cars having a pump in that location, but that doesn't mean it isn't so....that location was usually reserved for accumulator or filter.

Errka Vilhauer (I'm sure I've butchered the spelling) would be one to consult about this.......

After you do the pump, relay, filter, lines and accumulator......the next thing to consider is the fuel distributor.

CIS injection doesn't like to have any dirt in it, or sit around idle for any length of time.

Good luck---

the fuel filter and accumulator is there in the front side of tire the fuel pumpwires are tucked (red/brown w rubber boots) looks never never used in back of the tire/frame. Would someone have used an only harness they had (wrong one) and just tucked them.

PET6 and pictures, you need them.

I haven't looked, but my guess is that PET6 will show only one part number for the wiring harness in your model year for all markets. Thats typical, and so are unused wires.

I am not following a lot of what you are saying, pictures will help. Above and in front of my rear tire is the overflow fuel tank, which has no pump or filter, just a line back to the main tank.

Here are some diagrams (if I am remembering your model year correctly, it needs to be in your sig).

This one shows "I think" two different ways or more the pumps etc get set up.

My US 78 has a fuel pump behind the wheel, filter and accumulator in front of the wheel. It's my understanding that the 78's are supposed to have two fuel pumps. I'll do some searching and see if I can confirm this.

those unknown wires, and update

im going with the wires go to nothing , its a one only on the market harness to use for us and euro and the us 78 has fuel pump in fender.

if by any chance 78 euro needs that second pump will car have enough power to run without or is this what caused the fuel pump relay to be bad in the first place.

cause parts here for replacing and dont want to blow up the new ones.
hoping it goes ok with it starting for 3-5 secs twice going for all the fuel checking and replacing parts. but last attempt 3 absolutely no electric going to engine (all panels, window, radio, lights work) so ignition switch replace too. crossing fingers. *****did i do anything fuel inj ,distributor, water pump, timing belt NOPE. Why cause my fingers are crossed. eeewwww not just my fingers. here goes
