928 prices drop but collectables go up..
I have been collecting 928 stuff for a couple years, posters, ads, toys, RC cars etc.. Garage is a shrine to the Shark, even though my car is blasphemous abomination..
Although prices for 928s have gone down overall, it seems the collectable stuff is going through the roof. A 928 model I bought last year for $15 shipped just ended for $45 plus shipping on ebay. I have lost several bids lately and not by a little. Even being sneaky with auction sniper, I haven't scored any new stuff in weeks. What's going on? |
The models and collectible stuff are already scarce, demand exceeds what is available, and more than few people put no consideration on the exact cost of items less than $100 that they want.
Ebay has also awakened the whole world wide collector market, so items that might have sat for years in some thrift shop bin, get bought up and resold on ebay, and buyers who never thought about a 928 model, see they are available. I have half a dozen books, and purchased a European delivery sales brochure for my 83 which the first owner picked up in Stuttgart and had the factory stamp the warranty book. No models yet, or planned, but I do have a couple hot wheels. |
I got the 1:18 model when it was released, but so far that's it. I have a brochure from my old car that I never looked at after receiving it in the mail, so I'm holding off on buying that kind of stuff again.

Just didn't think the 928 was at the Beenie Babie stage yet..
Here's the model I was shooting for. Have one in the box, wanted one to build. But not at $43 plus shipping! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1226532450.jpg |
I think I had that one when I was a kid. I had a couple 928 models backthen but sadly I'm not the type that kept any of that junk.

Wow! That Revell one looks rad! Here's one of the Tamiya ones I built a few years ago. I just hang the boxes on the garage wall when I'm done because the Tamiya box art is so awesome. A three dimensional cardboard box with a good print on it looks like a legitimate art object- no framing necessary!

I bought that model when I had my 85. Built it to look like the car and then used some of the touch-up paint for my car to paint the model. Turned out okay, but looks really dusty (it is really dusty). I have a few of the 1:18th scale models of other cars (Ferraris, Lotus, & F-1). The 1:16th is close enough it doesn't look out of place with the others.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1226542634.jpg

I bought a 'lot of 50 or 60' green 928 hot wheels last year for a buck a piece. Kept half and gave the rest to my grandson. He loved sitting and playing in the 928 while living with me last year. Guarantee he will never forget what kind of car Papa has. :) He says Papa's Porsche. He is 3.
Now I spend and save all extra money for the real 928 in the garage. After taxes and before all the other hidden gov fees and such, the 'extra' is getting smaller and smaller. |

Wave money, it attracts sellers much more than a want to buy without the level of want expressed.
